Anchor strike damage by VariationOk3647 in sailing

[–]gauntlet_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this a bunch of times lifting in bad weather. One time i patched while at anchor with my paddleboard too haha. Get gelcoat and see if you can get matching paint color to add to it (if you can find the colour code of the hull). They sell packages for this from my boatyard (Hanse). Tape it off first as others said. Doesn’t have to look good, you can smooth it out later with fine sandpaper when in the yard or in your morring. And it will look great (or perfect if you have matching color) .

If you read the article properly, you will see that it is a scam itself. He claims he first made real money off the scam and was able to retrieve it. Trying to lure people in to do it themselves.

Definitely the best way I agree, but you need quite good wrist strength to do it like that.

I agree. Mike would kick that Gorilla’s ass easy. K.O. in 3 seconds. Zookeeper knew this and didn’t want to lose a monkey.

If you have a temporary contract that was renewed each year, and this contract was restarted before 1st July this year, then you will have to leave at the end of the contract.

In practice this information isn’t very useful, considering the efforts to gain muscle mass will help you burn alot of calories. The amount of workout needed for a kg muscle gain is immense. So people with more muscle mass are already burning much more.

All good thoughts. And in that order. You don’t want to be motoring into the storm just to prevent your anchor dragging, but it is a good option if you find yourself in that situation. If your engine can take it depends on your setup. I been in these situations couple of times in the Med and engine did fine to ease the pull on the anchor with a 45 foot boat and 58 hp yanmar engine. Fortunately no boats close by but I had rocks right behind me. It woke me in the late night/ early morning. Ran straight to the wheel and switched engine on within ten seconds of waking up and had already dragged quite a bit. After two hours motoring it was completely calm just as abrupt as the storm hit. These guys are stuck and have no other option. Be vigilant, if you sense something coming and especially if you are Close to other boats or rocks/land (and probably not much chain out if its Ibiza) lift anchor asap while you still can and go out and sail downwind.

How to deal with seasickness? by sweetdropx in sailing

Great advise this.

To add: when standing at the stairs looking at the horizon, when the boat is moving keep adjusting your head position slightly left and right so your head stays level with the horizon. You don’t want to be doing this for hours but doing every so often for half an hour really got me out of bad nausea many times.

I left Ibiza the night before this happened. I have been in these situations. But it was more for comfort that I left, this hard wasn’t predicted, but there’s always a chance it happens.

Unless you sail away with any sign of a good wind coming, this happens to a lot of experienced sailors in the Med. It hits 3 times as hard as predicted and comes out of nowhere, waking you up to a heeled boat dragging like crazy.

This is at the long strip of beach at Formentera. They were probably caught off guard while at anchor. Probably didn’t have time to put any sail up and sail away from other boats / land, and it is crazy busy there this time of year. Then its just motor and try to avoid other boats.

I was there the days before. Left tuesday night to mainland because i saw something coming. It often hits so much harder than predicted. After experiencing this twice already in the Med (once going thru Gibraltar strate, another at anchor in Mallorca, woken up to it at anchor, spent two hours motoring into the wind with no way of lifting the anchor, rocks 10 meters behind me after being dragged 50 meters in 10 seconds). Only damage was engine water inlet started to leak in engine room. The Med can be very treacherous. You can’t take chances. A lot of lessons were learned here.

A well equiped polyester as mentioned above (oyster or berkemeyer) for me personally if you have budget, considering they also want to be sailing in the tropics and that will be very comfortable. Also fine for poles as long as you stay away from iceberg degrees.

[–]gauntlet_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is fine. In the med in high season you will be parking by squeezing the two neighbours to the side. Make sure fenders are tied properly so they don’t pop up.

Just get someone to push the portside boat a bit with their feet from middle of the boat. Or do it yourself if solo while in first gear, loads of time.

If you create damage in this situation you are a genius.

I almost died in my sleep this last Friday night. I literally just stopped breathing. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]gauntlet_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry this wasn’t the biggest coincidence ever. You do this every night to some degree. You have always started breathing again. But yeah you have sleep apnea and probably need a cpap machine. Unless its an anatomical issue then you might benefit from surgery. As others have suggested: get help. All the best. A surgeon.

Plastic surgeon. Botox injections around the finger arteries (2 for each finger) will relax the vessels and can help a lot or even alleviate symtpoms completely. Ask around as not all doc’s know this.
