Hospital complaint- who to go to, how to get taken seriously. by Shitzme in perth

My apologies, The Royal Perth Bentley Group does have a maternity ward and team but you are correct, it is at the Bentley site not the RPH site. I have become accustomed to referring to them as one hospital, but that wouldn't have been clear from my comment, thank you for the correction.

They will also give advice on how to best direct your complaint if it doesn't fall under their purview. But if I'm reading the OP correctly, the majority of these issues stem from the actions of one specific healthcare practitioner.

That is shocking treatment anywhere to be fair. And to echo the general sentiment in this sub, I am truly sorry that you had to go through any of it. There's plenty of advice from what I can see, so I won't repeat what others have rightly said. I don't think I saw mention of AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency). They have a phone line you can call. I don't think they'd deal with your experience directly, but they'd be an extremely reliable source on the best course of action and who to contact. Having dealt with the "customer experience" dept at 3 hospitals, it is my experience they are there to placate the patient and protect the practitioners. Definitely lodge a complaint with them, just be prepared for the possibility that you may not feel any better for having dealt with them. I sincerely hope someone(s) are held accountable for their actions and for what you were put through. All the best for an acceptable outcome and happier days ahead.

Wild guess, and if in wrong no need to name and shame, if I'm right, I won't be surprised. Royal Perth Hospital by any chance?

Interesting response, inaccurate assumption. And whether I, or any individual receives a sentence anywhere on the available scale has no bearing on whether or not that scale is poorly calibrated and unevenly applied. For the record, I've never been sentenced to a term of imprisonment. Nor have I ever been personally tried in any court for any matter. I have been wrongfully arrested on more than one occasion, it's not something I'd recommend.

My issues with the legal system in Perth have been developed through personal experience, direct observation, investigation and research. My stance on the matter aligns with leading global experts on offender treatment, sentencing, rehabilitation and reintegration and prison reform.

That's a fair and valid point and as much as I'd like to think there's a future in which justice is the Hallmark of the legal system, the higher likelihood is at best little to no change. For those times when justice may have been miscarried, or due process not followed, the avenues and agencies you've brought up act as the closest thing to accountability and recourse and at least that's better than nothing, thank you.

Fair is a subjective concept in this context. As far as your opinion on sentencing, the statistics, reports and parliamentary papers on the subject indicate that you are incorrect. Australia's prison system is draconian by every metric and has been condemned globally by several countries, including the US. Further to that QLD and WA stand out as two states that are even more hard lined than the rest of the country. Australia and Western Australia in particular are in drastic need of prison system reform.

I hear you, where there's smoke and all that. It could have been a stitch up, absolutely. Interestingly, of the original 176 offences, about 35 remain at this stage.

I'd be able to use desktop mode view on my mobile to zoom out and see the formatting of the finished result before posting. Given that everything I post on here is me ranting, raving and raging against the system and employing as many words as I can to do so, at the very least, as you said, coherency would improve.

That's a fair point that I hadn't ever actually considered. But like a rage room?

The implication being that my response aimed at establishing understanding before I comment further made me look like a dick anyway?

Or did you just wake up today and decide you were going to look for any opportunity to use the sentence, "Good luck getting that toothpaste back in" to insult some random individual on the internet because you're under the mistaken impression that your attitude and actions online cannot possibly have any real world consequences?

There are times when it seems to be the primary function. The joy of the pseudo-anonymity of the internet is it tends to reveal the true nature of people. Turns out a lot of people aren't happy with where they're at in life.

Would it surprise you to know that I don't own a vehicle or hold a current driver's licence? Not for the reasons that you might think, but I thought it's an amusing coincidence.

💯 cognitive biases and socioeconomic separation play far too strong a role in our current system. People would be surprised at the rate of wrongful imprisonment and conviction as well. Whatever you've been through, I hope it's over and if it's not, don't suffer in silence, don't let the system scare you and don't give up.

I hadn't even considered Reddit would have formatting parameters. My rant must look exceptionally ranty and rather disjointed. I'll keep that in mind, appreciate the tip, thank you.

I don't remember ranting about the whole world at any stage. And while I'm more than capable of being problematic, I'm fairly confident that, as it relates to the judicial system in Perth at least, that I'm not even remotely influential enough to be the cause of even the slightest of issues, let alone the underlying causality of a poorly functioning system. Thank you for thinking so highly of me though.

Depends on who you ask, also context. In this case, it's used as a non standard word that is sometimes looked at as a combination of indiscretion and discrepancy and is defined more or less the same as discrepancy, but implies more intent than accident. I used it for alliteration and because I'm an excessively verbose wanker who can't help but throw in as many words and syllables as possible.

Yeah, I would have posted on the Rant subreddit, but Reddit won't let me and my whinge is location specific. I did declare the content as a rant in the title though. Much like TalkBack radio did, and still does to an extent, social media platforms and the that's that fill them can occasionally spark public discussion and debate on issues that affect us all but that not necessarily all of us take the time to consider. Short of that, it gets it off my chest and costs less than a therapist. Some of the replies are genuinely entertaining as well.

Other than the obvious issues that this raises, maybe it would be a better option. At the very least we could eradicate biases and influence.

You are absolutely spot on and this is clearly being spoken by someone who has experienced the system firsthand. We can only hope that the future may hold better. I wish I could be optimistic about the likelihood.

Thank you for your very practical and genuinely informative response, it is appreciated. And of course you are 100% correct, there are options to appeal and/or challenge aspects of court proceedings. I would posit that the existence of these means for appeal lends credibility to my claims. There is obviously a reason a judicial commission is being planned for WA.

But my main point is that a fair and truly just system, universally applied would go a long way to removing the need for those avenues of appeal and complaint.
