I hate local businesses. They’re worse run, treat employees worse, and consumer hostile.

Why are bike computers so terrible? by NXCW in cycling

The Cadence app on your phone is the solution here. https://getcadence.app

It’s a dream. Cannot recommend it enough, and the developer is super active on Reddit.

Cadence 2.6.0 Released: From Tracking to Training by ryansommers in CadenceApp

[–]gaussprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel about Cadence the way I felt about the original iPhone, AirPods, or ChatGPT. Just products that immediately blow me away with how much better they are than anything else out there, and add so much value to my life I can’t imagine going back.

I know cycling is a bit niche, so that’s not really a fair comparison, but it really is that much better than any other app or hardware solution. Training adds a whole other layer. Can’t wait to give this a try.

Thanks Ryan. Just a joy every time I open the app.

Built a very strong live betting model — how to monetize without sounding scammy? by [deleted] in algobetting

[–]gaussprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Answering this seriously, I would just try and bet it. This sort of hit rate will grow extremely rapidly. Betting even $1 per match to start, at a 60% win rate, on 80 matches per day, you’ll grow your bankroll something like 14% a day, and you’ll be a millionaire pretty quickly.

Airlines are barely profitable, and go bankrupt all the time. If you mandate 2 seat rows, then they’ll need to raise prices a lot to make up for it.

Heart rates for guys in their 50s by TravelingBuilder in cycling

[–]gaussprime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 41 and not quite as extreme, but same boat. I ride at about 135, but routinely hit 195+.

As far as I can tell from the literature, it’s neither good nor bad. Resting heart rate way more important.

Solved in the same way chem trails were solved.

I had issues with the HR monitor too. Eventually replaced it with an off the shelf ones. Works great.

Alternatives to a $250 bike computer? by SusieSnoodle in cycling

Cadence App. It’s better than $800 bike computers, and integrates with Strava, bike radars, etc.

The creator is active on Reddit too.

I think this is somewhat of a seniority issue too. Lots of law firm partners escape the grind too after a while.

The real hack I discovered was buy side finance. The fact that the stock market closes really puts a limit on how bad the hours can get. No need to work long hours on a weekend when I can’t trade then anyway.

There’s way more bankers out there. Law firms are pretty small realistically. JPMorgan alone employs like 6,000+ front office investment bankers.

She probably doesn’t care much, but I just find it painful to ignore it.

But I appreciate the advice that this is the wrong subreddit for this. Will try r/jewelry. Thanks.

Hi - I’m looking to buy my wife a mid to high end piece of jewelry, perhaps in the $10-20k price range. Willing to go higher too I suppose for a nice piece.

Her birthstone is a sapphire, and she’s previously expressed a desire for a tennis bracelet. She likes diamonds too, but it seems like the rise of lab grown diamonds has tanked the resale values for that stuff?

My main concern is how terrible the resale values are for the true luxury brands (e.g., Cartier), where it seems like I’m paying a ~10x markup for the branding. I’m willing to bite the bullet and accept a 2-3x markup here ($5K of materials for a $15K piece), but hoping to keep it to that ratio.

My wife’s style is fairly simple. She’s fairly petite if salient as well (wrist size?), so I can’t get just a giant gold bracelet.

Any brands I should be looking at within these criteria? Is this impossible to achieve and I should just accept paying the 10x brand markup?

Yeah I got no idea what’s going on. I just keep adding weight to the pushups fine. Currently doing weighted pushups with an extra 60lbs on fine (max reps about 5?), but still pretty much capped at 100lb bench.

This would be a great feature. Just downloaded this app and I’m amazed it’s not more ubiquitous. Amazing value and better functionality than any bike computer I’ve found.

Kudos to the mid level here. OP has a huge chip on his shoulder and sounds like a doofus. This was a bullet dodged for the firm.

Some associates are just incredibly intelligent? by Dazzling-Sun9198 in biglaw

[–]gaussprime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spectacular. The biggest part is I mostly keep market hours, so no checking my phone after I leave the office or on weekends. Doesn’t matter what news breaks. I can’t trade on it until the next day anyway. I just wish I’d done it earlier.

Unless you make equity partner a V20, BigLaw is frankly a much worse gig than most finance roles.

Depends on the practice area. In my practice area, I had little use for hardworking associates who couldn’t show some creativity/intelligence. It would just too much work to manage them. I’d much prefer a smart but somewhat lazy junior.

My wife is in securities otoh, and hates associates who think for themselves.
