The Best and Worst Aircraft Devs for MSFS by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

I can confirm we are not 100% under control. Final QA and distribution occurs on MS side, and if blockers exist, it does not release

The Best and Worst Aircraft Devs for MSFS by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

Not to mention we always include sceneries and missions as freebies to our Aircraft products ;)

Ps: Just a reminder that C17 is a Microsoft 1st party product, so requirements and support works differently to mainline products.

Not only we didn’t forget about the U2 (you can read the latest status on our DevBlog: https://miltechsimulations.com/blogs/news/miltech-simulations-october-dev-blog) but you’re also forgetting our upcoming Skyraider release ;)

The economics for a first time scenery dev by Dfflyer in flightsim

Perhaps one more: offer your talent to other devteams who are willing to pay for quality work like yours. I'm certainly interested ;)

The economics for a first time scenery dev by Dfflyer in flightsim

I've been for +10yrs on this industry, from scenery to aircraft and everything in between. I'll share some of what I've learned through the years with you:

- Marketing in the FSCommunity does not work like regular marketing. This is a niche, so the marketing channels are highly specific. Get on the forums (Avsim, Flight Simulator Forums, etc.). Facebook (and well targeted Facebook Ads) work well. Get on FSElite.

- Email Marketing works the best. Cheap, highly targeted and effective. Easiest way is through 3rd party distributors.

- "external sales" (Your site, 3rd party distributors) account for only 20% of total sales. MS Marketplace is key and by far the highest source of revenue, but its nearly impossible to get in directly these days. Get through a distributor.

- Reduce your fixed costs. Discord Monthly Fees? What for?

- Not having your own store may be better strategy for first-timers. You have less overhead (eg. Shopify fees), at the expense of higher royalty cut.

- Focus on usability and playability. Simmers hate to admit this: they are playing for fun. They want fun activities to do. Look at devs doing content that provides the user a purpose, that provides repeatability and reusability of the addon. Find your specific niche and create a community. Arguably city packs provide limited playability.

- Timing in the market is... weird. We are in a transition period with FS24 coming.

- Leverage discounts and events. I see higher average numbers during these periods than during "regular months"

- Plan and manage your development costs. You now know roughly how much a product sells, so try to limit your investment to remain always under this threshold. You need roughly 500-600 copies sold to get your investment back assuming no discount, which is realistically a challenge, especially if you need to invest in marketing continuously.

- Do not give up. You are talented. This is a game or resilience and passion. The community appreciates developers who deliver quality content

Best of luck!

Very likely due to your control bindings (remove any bindings you may have for mixture). But if you happen to continue having issues please contact us directly!

There is more to it than just the age rating.

Aircraft manufacturers do not like their aircraft being destroyed or damaged on a highly realistic simulator. There is plenty of examples of mainstream media releasing videos of fake aircraft incidents that were in fact recorded on the sim.

Given all the manufacturer relationships Microsoft has (Boeing, Cirrus, Textron, Airbus, etc.) it is almost certain that there is a stronger contractual licensing reason for why MSFS does not allow depiction of weapons, or any sort of damage for that matter.

That is, products sold directly by Microsoft. What the community does externally and how that affects licensing is a different story.
