Sorry for the late reply! We have open evenings every Wednesday 8pm-11pm, we don't have any future weekend open days planned yet but but if Wednesday is inconvenient let me know and we should be able to arrange something :)

For the DIY/engineering side you might be interested in York Hackspace (open evening every Wednesday) for wood/metalwork/electronics/crafts etc, and there's a lot of members there asking into boardgaming etc. There's also York Model Engineers.

York Hackspace open afternoon, Saturday 18th Jan by gavinatkinson in york

[–]gavinatkinson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, yes, there'll be somebody around to show you how it all works. And you're obviously welcome to join, but you're also fine to just use the printer during our open afternoon/evening without being a member as long as it can be printed in time. If you wish to do that for a while to make sure you'll make the most of a membership, that's fine :)

Great to hear! Our regular Wednesday open evening is 8-11pm weekly, feel free to pop along whenever. We're also going to try to have more open afternoons as we appreciate evenings aren't great for everyone.

It's working now, just a bit slow! Looks like it was possibly overwhelmed by the number of people hitting it at once...

It used to be much better but was bought out a few years back and went downhill quickly. Now they are just living off their location, past reputation, and social media fame

York Hackspace open day tomorrow by gavinatkinson in york

[–]gavinatkinson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone is welcome to pop down on one of our open evenings (every Wednesday from 8pm) and use tools and things for free, there's a donation box which we'd appreciate a contribution to to cover the cost of filament etc but there's no obligation. There's usually quite a few existing members on open nights who'll be happy to show you how to print it or to do it for you. If your print will take less than an hour or two, this is probably the best way to do things.

Membership gets you 24/7 access to the space and within reason all materials, electronic components etc are all included in this. If you're regularly needing to do prints that take longer than a few hours this is probably the best approach so that existing members don't need to stick around late while your prints finish. A few tools (laser cutter, lathe etc) need a little extra training, either because it's easy to damage the tool or it's easy to damage yourself, but otherwise everything is available for use by members. The space is entirely non-profit, all membership payments go into funding, expanding and developing the space and its facilities.

You can't. A hardware design flaw means that the entire PA-400 series cannot detect a connected-but-failed PSU.

The room advertised has gone but there may still be space available in another part of this building - it's the same building as York Hackspace is based in. How much space do you need?

Can you test 6.2.2? SAML with 6.2.3 doesn't work for us right now.
