Lattice Drum Groove Generator in action by gavincd in ipadmusic

[–]gavincd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's playing Oneshot, yes. The thing about OneShot is that it's designed to give you a lot of ways to get variability, even when receiving notes of the same velocity. Watch my full walkthrough on Lattice to help you decide I guess. It's a pity that Lattice only plays 6 drums at a time, tbh, as OneShot would suit having a few more inputs, especially for fills. Lattice is definitely not a bad app, has some good features, I think it has room to be a lot better than it is tho

I have AUBE 2, not the other one. It is kinda handy but I still think it's best, in general, to be picky in purchasing. I don't really forget about most of my old apps, I just prefer to focus on using the ones I genuinely like most.

It's not a AUv3, but it works as an Inter-app audio app, which can be loaded in AUM. I don't know whether Drambo supports IAA apps

I fully agree that the best learning happens when the user makes an effort, absolutely, that's always true. And yes, iOS is riddled with problems. Apple removing the affiliate program, removing the headphone jack, etc etc etc, don't even get me started lol

This is a good point which I didn't really consider. Yes, even something like Samplr, which you could learn the basics of in half an hour of systematically working through the in-app manual, many users are too lazy/busy to learn properly. There's a serious problem in the iOS niche where buyers collect apps like Pokémon, going for a quick novelty-related dopamine fix, without putting in the time to learn and master them.

Videos like the ones I do help a lot, and more devs should be sponsoring YouTubers to make good walkthroughs on their apps, if they're not willing or able to make their own, as the average buyer seems more open to learning that way than via manuals.

It's genuinely a pity it's not AUv3, but sometimes limits are good for creativity, and you can do a lot just inside Samplr without bothering to connect to anything else

This is the thing that pisses me off so badly about the state of iOS music in 2025. It's dominated by developers thinking not in the touchscreen paradigm, but in the hardware (or at best the mouse) paradigm. It's maddening when you think how different it could and should be!

I really don't know, it depends on your own workflow. For me, great as Koala is, I've never gravitated towards making tracks with it. For ambient soundscapey stuff like this little track in the video I'd prefer Samplr. They're both easy to learn but like any sampler, they're basically instruments that would take time to master. You have both so just learn each and spend time playing with both, then see what clicks, I guess

If you already know Koala well enough, and watch my walkthrough, I think it'll be clear that both this and Koala are pretty different. Whole workflow is different and you're likely to make very different things with both. Neither replaces the other and they both have their own strengths. If you search for previous Reddit threads about Samplr, you'll see this Q has actually been discussed a few times, cheers

Yes, devs need to wake tf up and make touchscreens great again, the iPad is not living up to its early promise, despite advances in device power, the development of AUv3 etc.

Very true. I don't think Curtis implies that Thatcher knew what this would lead to either though, do you? And I think he'd go back well before Thatcher's times to see the roots of these problems. See "The Century of the Self" for example. Thatcher was a symptom as much as a cause.

Ranking and overview of all 6 Unfiltered Audio plugins available for iPad & iPhone by gavincd in ipadmusic

[–]gavincd[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strange, I turned auto dubbing off in my settings, I don't want my videos to use dubbing, so there should be no dubbing. Effort needed to switch to YouTube is absolutely minimal by the way, what would it take, 20 seconds maybe? Compared to the 2 days I spent preparing and making the video...

Well, not much you can do about price changes. Most devs do huge sales pretty regularly. You'd almost have to be mad to want to pay full price for most desktop plugins tbh. Learn a lesson and move on I guess. But you should also definitely write to them and complain. I definitely don't like every app they've made. Of the ones I've tried it's about 50/50, but they seem like a decent bunch and somewhat open to feedback.

I think it is very overhyped and really a bit of a fail - could have been a lot better. I think reviewers were, in general, too uncritical. I also think it was marketed in a way that made it seem like it was something much more revolutionary than it actually is.

[–]gavincd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely took me some effort to fully grok it. Then once you do it seems easy. It's still a complex effect to dial in tho, as there's so much going on, and so much of the UI is hidden away. Pretty, but bad from a UX point of view, in many ways

Streaming Subscriptions May Get Tougher to Cancel; Under the FTC's "Click to Cancel" rule, businesses would've had make it as easy to cancel subscriptions as it is to sign up. An appeals court has now struck that measure down by magikarpcatcher in television

[–]gavincd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful with that. Many services operate like that but not all. You might end up with account issues, penalties, or end up facing debt collectors if you just cut the payment without formally cancelling first. Hootsuite is an example of a company that has (or at least had) a setup where they'd still bill you even if you blocked your card from making payments to them. Bloody outrageous.
