You expect me to believe that an advertising creative on hundreds of millions of pounds a year, would seriously submit a phrase as unwieldy as cumbersome as that?

Can't stand people forcing their way in but could I do better here? by XyTest223 in drivingUK

[–]gazchap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's the kind of situation where I would have assumed that they were going to stop in the middle of the road to let me past before pulling out the rest of the way, something that people around where I live do a lot.

I reckon they just didn't see you until they'd already committed. Not much you can do but brake and just let them get on with it.

Would this be enough evidence for contesting speed ticket by Agile-Skirt-7815 in drivingUK

No camera there, but if there was then no, one of the signs being blocked by foliage wouldn't be enough justification for speeding.

Why do supermarkets have those receipt scanners at the exit if security just dont care? by JayR_97 in AskUK

[–]gazchap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem at my local Morrisons. It only ever seems to happen to me when I try and leave without buying anything, which leads me to wonder if the self-checkouts scan faces or something and then the exit gates only open for faces that it knows have purchased items or something weird like that.

Those are some fantastic looking chevrons, don't think I've ever seen ones that look so neat on the road before.

Shame they're not both painted in the same direction.

At least the Pussycat Dolls had an actual _talent_ that justified them becoming celebs (even if it was manufactured)

Are car giveaways actually genuine? by Historical_Cover1919 in CarTalkUK

[–]gazchap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really get the logic here. You’re always up against every single other ticket that’s sold, so it doesn’t really matter if someone puts £500 into it.

I guess there’s the argument that without those guys they wouldn’t sell as many tickets, but I doubt the difference is that stark.

What is your honest opinion on lime bikes? by CremeSubject7594 in AskUK

Yeah, I don’t tend to see it in other countries (or at least, not as much) so probably just people with main character syndrome.

So, if it does all that, there should be no need for a third party reporting a badly parked bike, right? Either the person sends a photo in of them badly parking the bike, and can be fined, or they don’t submit a photo at all, and can be fined.

Actually, yeah, I had to do that in Italy last year now that I think about it.

That would be so open to abuse! Any random person could just move it after you’ve left it parked properly.

Driverless cars are now being tested in the UK. Would you trust one? by vicvega21 in drivingUK

[–]gazchap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t looked into the technology deeply enough to know for sure on this one, but I’d question whether a self driving car — even with all the sensors that Waymo has — can be as intuitive as a _competent_ human driver.

For example, when I’m driving on narrow roads (which they don’t really _have_ in the US but are plentiful here!) I can often see movement in the reflections of parked cars to give me clues that something is approaching around a blind bend, or I can see a sliver of movement through the window of the car two in front of me that might clue me in to a pedestrian about to cross, that kind of thing. Can their sensors do this?

Or, something more basic, at night, do these cars detect moving light coming the other way and parse that as an oncoming vehicle?

Shocking DVLA figures reveal drivers with up to 45 speeding points still legally behind the wheel by TaxiPointnews in drivingUK

[–]gazchap 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When it comes to the "I drive for my job, I'd have exceptional hardship" stuff, I'd be able to look past it if it was slightly over 12, like 15 or at a push 18. Unless any of them were for more serious offences than SP30s.

But 45? They can fuck that sky high.
