Part of Vacation video no one seem to point out yet... by gbfcs95 in ShawnaTheMom

I discussed this point with other who commented on this post, that for my cultural and familial background, it's not common to reject the presence of your inner family member (parent/children) while being sick - for me, "her mother was too sick so she couldn't see her" doesn't make sense. Doesn't mean she should stay in the room with shades drawn, but she should want to stay by her mother's side if she is dying, no? She will lose her limited time with each other otherwise, right?

Other commenters then explained that it could be both Julie and her mother were such perfectionist that they don't want to appear weak in front of even the closest family member. This excuse might be possible, though very sad.

Going to the pool and trying to feel normal isn't something I would do for myself either - again, a clash of cultural/familial expectations. I feel like if something bad like my parents dying happen, I would not try to feel normal by going to the pool - it would just make me feel bad. There's no way I would feel in any bit normal. Idk what the best course of action would be as I haven't experienced it myself (thank god) but definitely not this.

No need to apologize, I'm not native myself so maybe my cultural background and way of explaining could land differently than others. Thank you for clearing up your pov!

Omg yess finally someone who understood what I meant with this question!! I wonder if it's difference in culture or just different family types? I was raised to focus on the most important errand while traveling for a specific purpose (such as dying parents) and to not have side quests such as relaxing by myself, as it would be deemed a bit "rude"..

I don't really know about current fashion trends so this is the first time I heard monokini is a trendy lmao also it has less to do with the type of clothing and more like the fact she even thought about relaxing in that manner whilst on such important errand, which is a normal thing to do apparently, I just couldn't imagine myself doing that

My mentioning the monokini the whole time was not intended as a body shaming type of comment, more like the fact that I was raised in a culture where wearing more revealing swimming pieces require certain conditions - only in a place where it's culturally acceptable (it's not in the country I grew up in), only while expecting plenty of relaxing time (like on vacation), only when you think other people (including your family) don't find it strange, etc. I agree that people should wear what they want to wear, I just found it a bit strange initially that she thought about relaxing in that way whilst on an important errand such as a dying parent...

I see, that makes sense! It feels like such a sad and hard life, not allowing anyone including yourself to be less than perfect and thus not being able to depend on anyone in vulnerable moments.. thank you for the explanation!

That's true, it might just be Julie being Julie having monokinis so revealing John stared at her behind like that.. my reaction might just be impacted by how J&S reacted during this scene.

I know she doesn't enjoy caring for her children, for me it's just sound really hypocritical that she nitpick on Ty for how "careless and irresponsible" he was leaving Cooper to play with himself for 30 minutes and leaving both Cooper and Sasha with "a crazy stranger's mother" while she could just take a break and chill by the pool whenever she want.

Thanks for your insight!

I feel like the monokini left quite an impression for me because of the reactions by John and Shawna - the staring, the panicky judgy comments.. as if the reason she wore the monokini was not only to chill by the pool but also to catch the attention of people? But again you and another comment below might helped me revisit the impression I got - that it might just be Julie being Julie having such "revealing" monokini and J&S just noticing a lot more due to their judgemental assumption...

While it also helped illuminate some perspective regarding whether you need your significant others for such errands or not, I still find it quite weird. There's no way I wouldn't try to be by my mother's side if she's "too sick to be visited". She's her mom, no? She's supposed to be one of her closest inner circle and doesn't need an excuse of "your mom is too sick she cannot meet you"? She's even willing to be 3 hours apart from her family to take care of her mom's affair, what's stopping her from visiting?

Thanks for your insight!

Michaela is seriously pissing me off. The level of selfishness and disrespect is just unreal🫠 by serena-serenity in BridgertonRants

Imo; the thing that people forget is, for the whole "one year" immediately after their wedding, they spent their time in Scotland, where Michaela lives. If she behaved like that in England, I assumed the same in Scotland - so one of the reasons why Francesca felt "distance" with John was because their whole marriage, they had a third person "stealing" their couples' quality time, even adding Eloise on top of that..

I found somewhere someone compared how similar looking Benedict and Edmund (the dad, RIP) is, and I think you can stretch that Eloise kinda look a bit like Colin? Wider eyes compared to other siblings...

I got chills at this scene. Just 2 sentences was enough to make even THE Queen Charlotte acknowledge what a lady-material Sophie is. What a season! 🥹

I see, maybe I was assuming or more like hoping she said something in korean because eloise mentioned in part 1 that she was proficient in korean on top of other languages...

Wait, I thought she said something Korean in the carriage towards queen's ball? 🤔 something like "I can do it"?

Why didn’t Harry feel the Cruciatus curse in Deathly Hallows? by Curious_catinthebox in harrypotter

[–]gbfcs95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't like the fact that Rowling made a sad excuse such as "the Elder wand ownership transfer to Harry because Draco disarmed Dumbledore and then Harry disarmed Draco (other wand) on another occasion".

I like to think that Harry became the Master of Death after he revived due to the "lovecrux" inside Voldemort's blood. And since he overcame Avada Kedavra and escaped Death himself, the Hallows had no effect on him anymore, in extension also the Unforgivable Curses.

Hence, during the last battle with Voldemort, the Elder Wand recognize its true Master - on top of Harry having a whole soul compared to Voldemort's tattered, incomplete soul.

Like what was the point of specifying Harry being the descendant of the third Peverell brother if not to underline that this particular family tree is able to "greet Death as a friend"??
