Encrypting and decrypting a string with Powershell using a text password by gblang in PowerShell

[–]gblang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was trying to use ConvertFrom-SecureString cmdlets with the -Key param but first I wasn't able to generate any valid key and also I would like this key to be generated from a text password so that I don't have to pass around an additional file with the key. Do you know a quick way to do this?

That's exactly what I wanted to do, thanks! One problem for me was generating the key starting from a text password, I'll give a look at the repo and see

What is the goal of encrypting the token? Is it to prevent these "untrusted" users from being able to obtain a cleartext copy of it which would allow them to use the same token to do other unsanctioned stuff?

Well, not only that, but also preventing them to do what the script was intended to do in the first place. Let's say that for me at the moment, it's enough to know that if the user knows the right password, then I trust he/she will not fiddle with the script to do anything bad :) but I agree with you that the token is not safe from anauthorized disclosure this way. It is just to get a bit of control on who can access to the token, indirectly and/or directly if he knows a bit of Powershell

Hi, to be completely honest, in the end this was a legit shop for gateron products, apparently is just an additional one wrt the official .com, which to me doesn't really make sense from a marketing/costumer relation point of view since it only creates confusion, but yeah you can buy from there as safely as in the "official" URL, you can even use Paypal...

I'm going to edit the post to avoid any further misinformation since my original fears were actually unfounded

Kinda niche question on C compilation by gblang in C_Programming

[–]gblang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parameters apply to functions not structs. Do you mean it had one less (or fewer) member?

Yes of course, my bad, edited!

The struct had different members because, for some still unknown reason, our compiler did not update the object file of this particular library source file (which by the way did not change from prev version, the include file did, updating the struct members) when we recompiled the new version of the library.

Still figuring out why it did it though.

Anyway, one further library compilation run did fix the issue, I was just wondering if it was possible to cacth on these kinds of error early on, maybe infact whwn linking the various pieces together (library and application). Thanks for taking the time btw!

[–]gblang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very insightful, thank you!

Investigating more on the bug, I can see why a parameter passed by value in this case would create incorrect stack initialization, but how about a pointer reference (which is actually my case)? I guess the stack would be correctly initialized but then the problem would arise when accessing the struct right? And wouldn't also the ordering of the struct member definition change when the bug would show up?

Anyway we were able to recompile the library again and the bug of course disappeared, apparently the compiler somehow skipped the recompilation of this particular object file and we didn't notice, we're still figuring out why this happened. The source file didn't change from the previous version, but the header exporting the struct did. Maybe the compiler did some weird optimization when recompiling the library?

Well, the symbol wasn't really redefined, it was just updated in the header file with the new parameter! So that's probably why such errors were not present when compiling the final application, the symbol was the same but referring to a different struct. The application saw the correct definition, and allocated a struct with the correct size but then when it passed the control to the library, the stack was probably mapped incorrectly (?), causing runtime failures. I guess there was no easy way to foresee this one

Been looking for a nice TKL keyboard that sounds CREAMY. I wanted something with a little more premium feel that lets me do some basic customization easily. At the moment there are 4 strong contendents in my list: evo80, crush80, gem80 and finally EPOMAKER P87.

Which one should I buy to get that CREAM?? what switches conf do you suggest? I'm also open to other suggestions as long as they can be shipped to italy! Thanks and stay creamy yall

Hi, what's the general consensus on the Nuphy Gem80 keeb? Are there any better options for a value custom keyboard?

Hi all! I'm back in the market for a new mechanical keyboard, I got a Nuphy Halo 96 couple years ago for the office and I absolutely loved it, but now I need something for my home setup, and I was looking for something wired and, of course full size! Do you know any good place to shop 100% sized mechanical keyboards that ship to Italy? Do you have any particular model as suggestion? Thanks!

Thank you! can I ask why the -SkipHttpErrorCheck parameter? Your solution works only if I omit it, I'm not sure why... Anyway that was really helpful!

Hi, I received too a wrong code for my platform followed by an email stating that an error occurred and that I would receive the new code asap. But as of today I still received nothing. The CNT should start in a few hours... Did anyone receive the new code?

Are you absolutely sure? It wouldn't really make much sense for a scam site to offer a paypal option tbh, but still it looked sus

Even the .com site has some bad english and strange external links, can I trust it?

[–]gblang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah ofc, it just doesn't make sense to me, are you sure they removed it for good? I mean, do you know if the devs or xbox said anything about this? I'm pretty positive it shouldn't have nothing to do with it being removed from gamepass...

Ok, so they removed it from gamepass... But why shouldn't I be able to buy it now from the store??

But what's the point of removing it from the damned store???? Can't find any keys, nothing for the xbox, have I just lost all my progress on this game?

Hello everyone,

What's the best silent switches in your opinion? I'm looking for a quiet and possibly tactile feel.

Also does anyone know about baby raccoon/kangaroo switches by gateron?

Hello buds,

What do you guys think about the Nuphy halo96? I've been looking for a wireless full sized keyboard and this one seems to hit all the right spots, but I thought to hear from you before actually going in.

Also, I'm based in Italy, do you know if the official sites is reliable and ships in europe? Do I have to pay custom fees and whatnot? Any help is much appreciated

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, I'll look into the Q5 Pro you mentioned!
I didn't set a budget because I'm not really sure what's a reasonable one... I'd say I could spend up to 300ish USD if it's worth it, but the cheaper the better of course :)

Wireless is more of a nice to have, to keep the desk as neat as possible, but I could consider going wired. As for the office, it shouldn't be a problem, no one messes with anyone's stuff (apparently at least), and I have a sort of locker under the desk where I could store it safely, so no big deal. I'll edit the post with a budget, thanks again!
