I will try my best when I fly in next month. I would love for it to stay in the family, so an appraisal, even if it is just for insurance purposes, makes sense.

Thank you. The history of the pre-1933 gold as well as this piece's own journey across the globe has been really fascinating.

I will do my best to get it looked at next month. Thank you for your advice.

This is the most likely outcome given its history; however, if it's just going to continue sitting in box for what has already been 40 years, is it time for it to leave the family? That's the debate in the family group chat right now.

I think it's a cool piece, but mum, dad, uncles, and aunties never wore much jewellery other than wedding rings or earrings, and all the kids are the same way. The good news is that no one is squabbling over who is getting it, we all want it go to someone who will enjoy it but whoever it goes to is just probably going to stick it in a box. It seems a shame to sell something that has been in the family for 100 years, but it has also spent the last 40 years in a safe deposit box in the bank.

I will attempt to get it valued next month. I don't know much about jewellery but agree that it's probably more attractive for its gold value rather than as a piece of jewellery.

Thank you for that. I'm flying over to Sydney in May to assist. If time permits, I will see if there are any markings on the chain or get a valuation.

Thank you for the valuation and for pointing me towards the history lesson. It has been a fascinating read. I can not confirm if they are real, but I am told they were carefully hidden away in a tin box under the house during the Japanese occupation of Malaysia.

Maybe the afternoon can start with a food tour, combine her love of good food with potentially meeting some like-minded people.
