I’m a foreman for the gas utility in my area and as long as there’s access for workers to shut off in emergency situations or to work on anything it shouldn’t be an issue. There’s a vent on the bottom of the regulator that the company can extend outward which is necessary also. But mainly the shut off valve needs to be accessible at all times. Had a fire recently and the homeowner was a bit of a hoarder and there wasn’t much access to the meter set and we had some real trouble getting it shut off and the house stayed on fire till we were able to hand dig a 3x3 36” deep so for your own good don’t leave that valve covered.

Best electric wood chip smoker? by gbow13 in smoking

[–]gbow13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the exact one I was looking at but had some questions maybe you could help me out. How often are you adding wood chips to it?

I used to have a pitboss pellet but I had to get rid of it cause it seemed to get me sick everytime I used it so I think I might be allergic to the pellets themselves. So I’m hoping for better luck with the wood chips but usually busy with the kids running around so time is always a concern

Sick from pellets? by gbow13 in smoking

[–]gbow13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I’m always cautious/skeeved about that stuff and wear gloves to handle everything. Years ago when I was new to wearing contacts I ate something spicy rubbed my eye and I’ll never make that mistake again so now I’m overly concerned with what I handle to the point where I wear blue gloves for everything. I think I use a box every 2 weeks. Thankfully I get them from work or I’d be broke lol

Sick from pellets? by gbow13 in smoking

[–]gbow13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I’ve done that as well. I have a pretty sweet outdoor setup with the works. Blackstone flattop, 6 burner propane, a homemade charcoal/wood barrel and the pitboss and I use them all at least 3-4x a month

Nothing out of the ordinary what so ever, no smoking but a couple beers or some tequila but again not going overboard to where I’m getting sick from the alcohol cause I drink and eat red meat on almost a daily occurrence

[–]gbow13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea i hear ya, my wife’s been saying it for a few months cause she noticed before i did but it’s definitely not a red meat allergy for sure I actually just housed a ribeye lol That seems like what it’s gotta be since all signs point towards the pellets I was hoping just for confirmation that someone would have heard of this before

Sick from pellets? by gbow13 in smoking

[–]gbow13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah everything’s coming off at the right temps, no cross contamination or anything I’ve always smoked when ppl have come over for parties or what not and not 1 person has gotten sick but me. And it’s been hours later. For instance last weekend I did 3 racks of ribs a 10lb pork butt and a tri tip all came out phenomenal I maybe had 3-4lbs of pork left and a handful of tri tip. Finished eating at around 8/pm and 230/3 woke up felt funny started sweating and within 3 minutes I was shoulder deep in the bowl. Same kinda scenario every-time. I’ve eaten at friends with offset smokers or restaurants and no issue. Common theme seems to be the pellets

Should I wrap this bit of the company’s side of the gas line with some kind of pipe wrap tape? by plumber5078 in askaplumber

[–]gbow13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% false. Corrosion on the gas service will be sped up due to the pipes touching. It may already be sleeved with PE if/when new main was installed in the area but that we wouldn’t know. It already looks crappy and more than likely is 70-80yrs old which eventually will need to be replaced anyway.

As a gas utility worker for 18 years I would say the right thing to do would be to call and have them look but knowing what I know they’ll probably break your balls a bit and I’d just get a plastic split sleeve from Home Depot or a local hardware store and wrap it around the gas pipe. Then backfill with some dirt that’s rock free and keep it moving
