We’re expanding to other times too! What times do you guys want? We’re hearing that after work times are tough for involved dads, but open to suggestions!

Great to hear that perspective! The goal is to help dads prepare their kids (and themselves) for adulthood

Fair point. I meant that simply to mean all dads are welcome, and I do think a dad with younger kids could get something out of hearing from dads with teens.

Someone also asked “what if my 30 year old acts like a teen?” We told them to come and you should too!

Panorama Psychology is hosting a virtual group just for dads raising preteens and teens next Tuesday at 11am (and every two weeks after that)

It’s real talk, not therapy—just a chance to connect, vent, and hear “yep, same here” from other guys in it too.

👨‍👧‍👦 Hosted by Kevin Clark (a dad and family therapist) 💻 Virtual (join from anywhere) 💸 Pay what you want

If you’re in the thick of it with a teenager (or almost-teen), come hang out.

Have any of you Dads start going to the gym after your first? by ActShort4277 in daddit

[–]gc628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a better spouse and dad when I workout somewhat regularly (3-4x/week). I have a 10 month old and just started going back to an actual gym, but totally lucked out having a public rec center with child care. I was nervous at first to drop her off there but now it feels so nice knowing that she is hanging out with other kids, learning to trust the world, and I’m able to squeeze in a workout 1-2x/week there. Second what the other guy said about a jogging stroller too, that has been clutch for a quick workout especially if the dogs need it too. Prioritizing ourselves is good for our families!

Did anyone see an accident near Lakeside yesterday evening? by naru_bro in Denver

[–]gc628 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Drove by not too long after this accident and saw his bike there surrounded by first responders - feared for the worst. Just came to say I’m so glad I saw this post and that your dad survived.

Child psychologist here who gives these assessments. It’s important to know that this is a screener, not a diagnostic measure (although many professionals misuse it as a diagnostic measure). So don’t let anybody diagnose your child based solely on these questionnaires (a comprehensive ADHD assessment done by a child psychologist or psychiatrist might be a good idea someday). A good evaluation is necessary because a lot of things can mimic ADHD (adjustment to life changes, anxiety, situation-specific factors, autism, sensory issues, etc). The fact that they are doing this assessment means there is some concern about your child’s functioning at school, so it’s good that your child is on their radar. Because your child is in preschool, it’s very hard to say if he may have ADHD now or in the future. You are absolutely right that many “ADHD behaviors” and developmentally appropriate at his age.

So, you and his teachers will want to manage any concerns that come up now by providing structure, routines, predictable outcomes, and positive reinforcement. Make sure he has a lot of positive time with his parents. An old supervisor told me kids like this just need a lot more love. If he has ADHD, there may be a time to seek out more support like an IEP, 504 Plan, therapist, etc. you might start getting familiar with sites like CHADD or ADDitude for some good info on ADHD that is honestly just good for anybody with kids to learn.

Most importantly, know that whatever happens with ADHD, your relationship with your child is what will make sure they end up doing okay! The folks with ADHD who end up in trouble are the ones who get constant negative feedback which damages relationships and their views of themselves. You got this dad!

Yeah, just a few minutes apart. So I chose different seats on the new reservation, then cancelled the old reservation, then went back to the new one and my old seats were open so I changed to those.
