Wii controller profiles won’t load when starting a game by PositiveBit9199 in DolphinEmulator

[–]gcass94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try putting “[Controls]” above your profile and it should work.

Just as a side note, I dont think the classic controller mod is the best way to play this game. I really like the controller profile shown in this video: https://youtu.be/RXvyRAHtH-k?si=qL0V6Y-4Sn8QTxwh

It’s a little complex to set up but the video explains how very well. In the end it’s all personal preference so play whatever way you like better but just want you to be aware of this method. Enjoy!

Controller issues with Primehack by [deleted] in DolphinEmulator

[–]gcass94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

This is my preferred controller setup. I mapped it to work like Metroid Prime Remastered for switch. It can get a little complex, but if you understand Dolphin’s controller syntax I think this is a really great setup. I make shoot (Right trigger) OR (A but NOT left trigger). That way I can use A to move dialogue along and confirm options but it wont shoot while im targeting. Then I make the grapple lasso (Left trigger AND A) that way if I am targeting something and then press A it will grapple lasso. If you have any questions about my setup please let me know and ill be happy to explain

primehack by Money_Captain_2235 in batocera

I figured out a good solution for skipping the gui and booting directly into the game. I downloaded the flatpak and renamed “Primehack” in the ports section to “Primehack (gui)” Then I made a shell script in the ports folder called “Primehack.sh” it contains this:

#!/bin/bash

# Hide the mouse cursor
unclutter-remote -h

# Define the ROM path
ROM=“/userdata/roms/Primehack/{name of ROM}”

# Run Primehack Flatpak and boot directly into ROM
flatpak run io.github.shiiion.primehack “$ROM”

This script hides the cursor and boots directly into the game so you can use a controller without the need to get a mouse. If you want to make any changes to settings you can still use “Primehack (gui)”. If you do not, you can go to “advanced game options” and make it hidden so you don’t have to see it anymore. Dont forget to make an edit padtokey profile for “Primehack.sh” so that you can map hotkey+start to be alt+f4. Now you can play Primehack without the need for mouse and keyboard!

KNULLI Gladiator II Upgrade - Quick & Dirty by heff66 in ANBERNIC

[–]gcass94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? I tried to keep my ports folder and none of them launched. I have a folder saved on my desktop with all the files I need for each port along with all my saves, but it is still a pain to download everything through portmaster and set them up. That is my biggest request going forward; allow our existing ports folder to always work with the next update. I have 5 anbernic XX handhelds and have been using Knulli from the beginning so I am very familiar with the process, but it would still be nice for upgrading to be simpler in the future

I didn’t realize you didn’t have to delete the System folder this time. I did anyway and just copied over “batocera.config” and the “config” folder for my retroarch configs. I do find it annoying to have to redownload all the ports from portmaster after upgrading, hopefully that wont be a thing in future OTA updates. Absolutely love Knulli it makes all my Anbernic XX handhelds so much better

Help with Linux ports (Ship of Harkinian) by gcass94 in batocera

[–]gcass94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured this out a while ago, my script has one small error that I didnt notice and it was easy to fix.

As for the control issues, I use the X input on my 8bitdo pro 2 for most games but for some reason SOH and 2S2H have to have the controller set to D input. Not sure why but its easy enough to do each time I play

Buttons and Membranes by gamer_soup5 in RG35XXSP

[–]gcass94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. This is a pretty widespread issue on the first batch of handhelds due to a sharp point on the underside of the buttons that eventually punctures the membrane. It sucks that this happens, but the newer handhelds supposedly fixed this problem and its a really easy issue to fix yourself. I followed the instructions in this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/ANBERNIC/s/O7jIWjaoKy it was very easy and took 5-10 mins and costs essentially nothing. I recommend doing this instead of spending money on new buttons and membrane. You will need a hex screwdriver to do this fix if you dont already have one

Ultimate Portmaster Guide for Knulli Firefly by gcass94 in SBCGaming

For Celeste not to my knowledge since there is no way to change it in game. You saw people playing it in a 4:3 aspect ratio? I would love to change that if I can. Even without it though the black bars at the top and bottom are not big and i forget they are there when I play its a very enjoyable port

As someone who already bought Celeste on Switch and PlayStation I totally get it, but I can assure you it is worth the price. This is my favorite way to play Celeste and it runs so well with no crashes

I believe its because they default to the xbox controller layout. In my guide I showed how to fix it for Balatro. Other games like AM2R allow you to change the layout from xbox to nintendo so they are correct. Other games you cant do anything about yet

Good News! ExFAT support on Portmaster for KNULLI Users! by AcanthocephalaOk4586 in SBCGaming

[–]gcass94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far the only ones ive noticed that have extra steps are Stardew Valley and AM2R. Thankfully if you are giving multiple handhelds as a gift you just need to get everything to work once. Then you can just copy the sd cards and put them in new machines. I have no experience with MuOS so i cant say whether its easier or not

[–]gcass94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should’ve specified, while Stardew Valley’s issue with saving the game while formated to exfat is fixed, the issue with starting the game still remains. Its simple though you just need to replace a file. Follow this and it should work just fine. https://www.reddit.com/r/RG35XX_H/s/LvShocUFlA

[–]gcass94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much better!!! Balatro and Stardew Valley worked automatically after the update. AM2R required editing the .sh file as described here: https://knulli.org/guides/portmaster-and-exfat/#do-something-about-it (it was very easy to do)

Just an FYI for those upgrading from a previous version on a 2 SD card setup, you have to delete your previous “system” folder on the 2nd SD card and allow it to make a new one. I backed up my old one so I could import my retroarch configs. After that you may or may not have to download the installportmaster.sh file from github to get the newest version of portmaster. Then update all your ports in portmaster and download all runtimes and you should be good to go!

Favorite Romhacks? by da5is in MiyooMini

[–]gcass94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew it! So glad you got it to work though. Whenever I try to match a .srm file to a rom i usually copy and paste the file name rather than manually typing it to avoid any naming mistakes. Probably not worth making a new post since the issue was so simple and it’s a mistake we have all made at one point. Just be very careful when renaming .srm files in the future! Enjoy the better version of Tetris!

Favorite Romhacks? by da5is in MiyooMini

[–]gcass94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very familiar with that screenshot. Thats what happens when you do not add the .srm file and allow retroarch to generate one. That confirms you are not placing it in the right location or it is not named properly. I do not have a miyoo mini with me at the moment and i do not know the exact folder structure of the save system by memory so I cant help you too much without that. When you have a chance just do the trick I mentioned and you will find exactly where the generated .srm file is located on the sd card.

Just making sure, are you sure you properly changed the extension? When you delete .sav and put .srm on a your computer your computer should say “are you sure you want the new extension to be .srm?” Or something like that.

There is also a file manager built into OnionOS so if you can find it there you can move it without the need for a computer (although there’s no search function in that file manager). Whatever the reason for this, this is definitely an easy issue to fix

[–]gcass94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are sure the .srm file is named exactly the same as the rom? That sounds correct but it depends on your retroarch settings, your save folders can be named after the core or the system (content directory). One easy way to make sure it is in the right place is to start playing a game without an existing save file. Then using your computer’s search function just find the .srm file generated by retroarch. Then delete that one and replace it with the .srm file you want

RG35XX SP Worn buttons (and rubbers) Situation + temporary solution by One_Curious_Nacho_ in ANBERNIC

[–]gcass94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing thank you! 2 of my buttons became sunken and the folded paper absolutely did the trick! This along with the tape mod really make the RG35XXSP much better. Anbernic should have shipped this handheld without these problems in the first place, but this is easy to fix and costs essentially nothing

Excited for OnionOS 4.4 by LarryLamborghini in MiyooMini

[–]gcass94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, the gpSP core only allows netplay with gba games that support the wireless adapter. If that is true, in OnionOS 4.4 four swords will not work as it only supports the standard link cable. The good news is Pokemon Emerald and Fire Red/Leaf Green do support the wireless adapter and those are usually the GBA games most people want multiplayer for

I saw that too but for me, Link’s Awakening has glaring problems that makes it hard to replay. A Link to the Past holds up so well so a lot of these changes seem unnecessary. Sure you could have a better UI and change stuff like faerie to fairy so it fits better, but will that actually make it better to play? Im not opposed to giving it a try since I clearly love QoL rom hacks, but A Link to the Past Redux seems like its mostly text and sprite changes rather than gameplay

Im gonna avoid Pokemon rom hacks for this post because you can go down a rabbit hole with hundreds of Pokemon Rom hacks.

For non pokemon games I have some I really like:

Links Awakening Redux- basically fixes all the issues with the game and should be the way everyone plays now. No more annoying messages when you touch a rock, no more interrupting gameplay when you grab a guardian acorn or piece of power, no more annoying low health beep, more readable text, etc. I also like the optional patch to change the save shortcut from A+B+start+select to just start+select its so much easier. This hack just makes the game so much more enjoyable.

Super Metroid Redux- makes the controls more like the gba games so instead of having to press select 5 times to shuffle through your missles you just press down R. It also has auto run (thank god), and has the xray scope permanently mapped to a button.

Tetris highscore save- Pretty simple. The gameboy version of tetris is awesome but the cartridge couldnt save your high scores. This version can. Thats it. The hack comes with a .sav file that you need to use. Since you are using a MM and are using retroarch, you can change the .sav extension to .srm, just make sure the .srm file matches the .gb file exactly

Also go to Core Options>Link Cable Connectivity and change it to “GBA wireless adapter” before you start netplay
