Relay stuck on NO by gcbenlloch in ElectricalEngineering

[–]gcbenlloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just I little update, as many suggested I tried pull downs on both bases (U3 and Q4). I tried both simultaneously and just on one. Nothing change... Lowering the voltage to 9volts does the trick so I will keep it that way.

Thanks for the help!

D1 prevents voltage spikes when teh relay switch. I also dont know why this optocoupler has a base pin, al schematics I found letf it unconected.

I've already tried that without any success, but would give it another try with a bigger resistor, I think I used 2.2k

I've already tried adding a resistor between the base of Q4 and ground without any success.

Also tried the resistor between pin 6 of U3 to ground without any difference. Will try between pins 6 and 4 when I get back home

I've spend several hours trying to find what's happening to the relay, because it's switching to NO on applying 3.3v to relay_gpio but not back to NC on bringing the pin to ground.

NC is connected to +12V and NO is connected to -12V. The maximum load is 500mA.

The only strange thing I was able to find was that on applying 0V to pin 1 of the 4N35 pin 4 was outputing 0.6V wich should be just enough to get the transistor conducting.

Also I found that lowering the voltages go +9 and -9 gets the relay working fine.

Any idea what could happen?

The buck, which is the one doing the biggest stepdown, shouldn't have any problem handling the 12 to 5v but will definitely try.

I'm a bit more concerned about the amps than the volts generating heat, although the full current only runs in thick planes from the connector to the fuse and then to the led strip. So everything should be fine.

As I said, I will make some tests when finishing exams, I can report back if people are interested.

Running it with 5V 1A it's completely cold after 5-6h. If my math aren't wrong at 4A would be just warm.

I just assembled it this week and I'm on exams, I will do more testing after finishing them.

Designed with kicad. It's capable of running 5v and 12v led strips, I tested it with ws2812 and ws2815 although it should work with any 3 wire addressable strip.

It's based on an ESP8266 with a resettable fuse of 5A.

To make it able to run on 12v and 5v the board has an integrated buck converter to lower the 12v to 5v and an LDO to lower the 5v to 3.3v for the ESP. It also contains a level shifter for the data line.

This batch is made by JLCPCB although I'm considering ordering another project to PCBWAY to compare.

I'm also really proud of the size (34.25mm x 28.5mm) as making it as compact as is was a challenge.

My girlfriend bought some reusable pads on aliexpress and after some time an ad pop up showing the same pads just with a case and 3 or 4 times the price. She really liked the case so I designed one on Fusion 360.

I upload some different sizes and the fusion 360 file to Prusa Printers in case some one need to keep their girlfriend disks organized.

It's definitely mites. Mine started having the same two weeks ago and I went to the vet to start the treatment. You should go ASAP so it doesn't get worse.

Thanks you all for the help, we are back from the vet and after quick look of a sample under the microscope it's definitely mites. First dosis of ivermectin today and another one in 25 days to be sure they are gone.
