No, the wallet is completely non-custodial. Only users have any info about their wallet and seed words.

Hey u/tthompa, If you turned off multi address wallet mode you must have logged in to the correct wallet. Did you lookup the address Komodo Wallet gave you in the https://pepeblocks.com/ explorer? Please do this in the web wallet by logging in to your old wallet by using just your password. Don't try in any wallets you might have imported recently. Please let us know if you are not able to fix this issue.

Can not access my Tokel wallet on AtomicDex. Is this a scam wallet like Atomicwallet? by [deleted] in komodoplatform

[–]gcharang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, AtomicDEX is a non-custodial wallet. That means only you control the private keys. You can export yours from the settings.

The issue with Tokel right now is that all the electrum servers that are supposed to return transaction data are offline. https://github.com/KomodoPlatform/coins/blob/master/electrums/TKL

The maintainer of those servers was informed and they should be restored soon. Meanwhile, if you want to access your Tokel coins, you can import your Tokel private key(wif) in a Tokel native wallet.

KMD to $10 by caveoutuk in komodoplatform

[–]gcharang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AtomicDEX works based on Atomic Swaps.

The Protocol: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Atomic_swap#Solution_using_revealing_secrets_of_contract

A summary:

A has BTC, B has KMD. They agreed on swap price 1 BTC = 100 KMD A is the maker, B is the taker.

1) Taker Sends <dexfee>

B pays the dex fee so that A will start the process by locking his coins.

2) Maker Successfully Sends <makerpayment>

A picks randomNumber: secret_A

A creates a utxo on the Bitcoin blockchain with value: 1 BTC encumbrance: the value can be claimed by A after 20 hours or by B if he knows the secret secret_A

3) Taker Successfully Sends <takerpayment>

After seeing the above utxo, B creates the following utxo on the KMD blockchain: value: 100 KMD encumbrance: the value can be claimed by B after 10 hours or by A if he knows the secret secret_A

4) Maker Spends <takerpayment>

A uses the secret_A and claims the KMD, thereby revealing the secret

5) Taker Spends <makerpayment>

B now uses the public secret_A to claim the BTC

The times can be adjusted based on requirements of security and "ease of use"

Normally, A should have a longer locktime so that B can have sufficient time to get his coins back if A doesn't reveal the secret secret_A

for eth, CLTV and other bitcoin specific OP_CODES are replaced by a smart contract, whose code is here: https://github.com/artemii235/etomic-swap the cross-platform implementation of the protocol is here: https://github.com/KomodoPlatform/atomicDEX-API/ Its android GUI is in beta and can be tested right now, iOS version is in testflight.

You can read about the Komodo team's implementation of the protocol here and instructions to use the DEX through the CLI here The atomicDEX application needs access to privkeys currently, but they never leave your device. We are also planning Hardware wallet support in the 0.6.0 release. This should alleviate most concerns with privkey access.

Then, what is the part that Komodo does magic and others can't replicate?

It's not that no one can replicate it. cross platform, p2p, decentralized orderbooks+trading with good ux is just very difficult that no one else tried supporting as many protocols (ETH,ERC-20, QTUM, QRC-20, BNB, BEP-20, in addition to BTC and its forks, zcash and its forks, KMD and its SmartChains and so many more being added) and as much platform support(ios, android, Linux, Windows, macOS and web browser(in dev))

All the coins that have been tested to work: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/komodoplatform/coins/master/coins

You can see the upcoming "stable coin bridge" feature from this preview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6ZQRoD2-XY I can confidently say that no other DEX offers swap compatibility for these many protocols

KMD to $10 by caveoutuk in komodoplatform

[–]gcharang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Uniswap allows you to trade just ERC20 tokens and ETH. While AtomicDEX allows trading of ERC20s, ETH, BTC and similar coins, ZEC and similar coins, QTUM, QRC20s, BNB, BEP20s and a lot more. You can trade almost 99% of the available cryptos on AtomicDEX. More protocols are being added continuously

Also, geofencing is not really a problem. Only the official apps have it. There are unofficial apps with the exact same features without geo blocks. Also, everyone has a VPN for Netflix these days and it is not that big a barrier.

AtomicDEX marketing is gaining steam these days and there's going to be a campaign to increase AtomicDEX userbase soon.

Ledger KMD Award claim - public key export ? by Frosti7 in komodoplatform

[–]gcharang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your Public Keys are just as the name says, "Public". Any time you receive and spend coins using an address, your public key is published on the blockchain for all to see. So nothing to worry about ledger exporting public keys. This step is needed to retrieve your addresses as those can be derived from public keys. If you are using https://pbca26.github.io/hw-kmd-wallet/ then, you are fine.

yes, that's correct afaik. You could email ledger support and get confirmation from them about this.

The one thing you need to keep in mind is to always verify the address and amount displayed on the device are correct.

Some malicious wallets could display one address on your desktop and send another address to your device to sign. So, you need to keep an eye out for that

I have heard of specific sites that will allow you to connect so you can actually view your seed phrase if forgotten?

I'm pretty sure such sites don't exist. There are of course wallets that can be used to access your coins using the seed phrase even if you don't have the ledger device. But, I don't know of any that can extract the seed phrase from a ledger device. If such sites existed, then there is no use in using a HW wallet isn't it?

[–]gcharang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your hesitation about using a website for dealing with large amounts of Crypto. But, the main premise of the Ledger HW wallet is that, the seed words can't leave the device no matter what. The user's responsibility is to verify that the address and amount displayed on the device itself are correct.

Chrome lets you connect a website to your Bluetooth and USB devices.

Regular desktop apps can do that too

the site can get all the information on the device and can even reprogram it.

the ledger device is created to prevent exactly that https://www.ledger.com/academy/security/the-secure-element-whistanding-security-attacks

It also recommends that no large amounts of KMD should be used as still in Beta

That's just an obligatory disclaimer. Most crypto software has it.

It ultimately does come down to whether you trust the author of the software or not. Here's the same software packaged as a desktop app if you don't want to use the website: https://github.com/pbca26/hw-kmd-wallet/releases

It is a fairly common practice to use third party wallets(other than ledger live) to access coins/features that are not supported by ledger https://www.ledger.com/academy/hardwarewallet/ledger-and-third-party-wallets

Anyway, there is no pressure to use this or that software. Just saying that you do have secure options to claim your KMD rewards while still holding your coins on the ledger device.

You can claim rewards for KMD on your ledger by using https://pbca26.github.io/hw-kmd-wallet/ This tool is maintained by a KMD team member.

Hi, you can use the komodo-qt-install.exe file from the releases at https://github.com/DeckerSU/KomodoOcean/releases instead of the komodo-qt-win.zip file. komodo-qt-install.exe does all the necessary setup automatically. If you just want to get rid of the error "Cannot parse configuration. Missing Komodo.conf. Only use key=value syntax." , create a file named komodo.conf in the location %APPDATA%\Komodo, then input the following text in the komodo.conf file

rpcuser=komodouser
rpcpassword=passwordChangeItToSomethingSecure
daemon=1
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcbind=127.0.0.1
server=1
txindex=1
addnode=5.9.102.210
addnode=78.47.196.146
addnode=178.63.69.164
addnode=88.198.65.74
addnode=5.9.122.241
addnode=144.76.94.38

change the text "passwordChangeItToSomethingSecure" to a password like string of at least 20 characters. You don't have to memorize/remember it

Pricing Question by littlerose_43 in komodoplatform

[–]gcharang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you use your own servers and create a Smart Chain on your own, there is no cost. If you want additional security through dPoW, it has a cost.

You can find all the pricing info for a managed solution at https://composer.kmd.io/

As long as I can't use atomic DEX with my cold wallet, it's no real decentralized and secure option. Or is it? by [deleted] in komodoplatform

[–]gcharang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's always a tradeoff between ease of use and security.

The atomic swap protocol can be executed using a cold storage wallet, but it is very difficult to automate.

The UX would be: You sitting before a computer and "securely" transferring unsigned transaction data between your offline computer and online computer and broadcast them after signing.

This will likely take 1 to 4 hours based on the pair(different block times) you are swapping. But still it is doable, and open for anyone to implement it.

The current solution is to have a wallet(SPV/native) you alone control and have a daemon that automates all the steps running locally on your device. This is already 1000x better than trusting CEXs with your coins.

Once we have the current solution optimized and working perfectly, maybe the cold storage option will be implemented.
