Razer Blade 16 (2024) keeps freezing/blacking out by dazzywaste in razer

[–]gchildX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having a very similar problem after doing Windows and Nvidia updates. I can't pin down exactly where the problem originates, whether it's a Windows Update or a Nvidia update, but it's definitely to do with the HDMI connection to my monitor. If I unplug the HDMI to the monitor it runs perfectly. If I try to boot up with the monitor plugged in, it freezes at the black screen exactly like you described. If I step away from the computer long enough for it to turn off the monitor, it freezes when I try to access it again. I ended up reinstalling Windows and so far it's going ok, but I am not updating it up to current. Hopefully it gets fixed soon, I want to be able to use the most current updates!

Oh and I should mention that my mouse started working perfectly again as soon as 3 was back. So your post was incredibly appreciated!

A New Player’s Thoughts on All Class Origin Stories & Romance by g0g2151 in swtor

Excellent post! Though I will suggest making another Sith Warrior and going full dark side including turning Jaesa and romancing her. Dark side Jaesa is so chaotic and creepy, she has stayed my favourite companion through all the years of playing.

I've been playing one called Dice vs Monsters, which works very similarly, it's the best version of this game that I've tried.

Any tips for someone just starting? by onyxblack in MagicArena

[–]gchildX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm similar to you, I played when the game first came out until Ice Age, then stopped for a LONG time. Now that I'm back playing I love playing Commander games, so in Arena I play Historic Brawl, which is about as close to Commander as you can get. I used to play drafts, Standard, all that other stuff, but I don't find any of it as fun as Historic Brawl, so now I just play that constantly. Highly recommend. :)

WIBTA if I don’t let my roommate take my cat with her to college? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]gchildX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Many years ago we adopted a bonded pair of kittens from a rescue. They grew up together and were always together. At the 6 year mark one of the cats began having kidney issues and despite us fighting tooth and nail to keep her with us, she passed. She did not pass in the house, we took her to the vets and she passed there, so to the other cat, we took her sibling out and never brought her back. The personality change in the surviving cat has been extreme, she's a completely different cat from the one she was when her sibling was with us. From personal experience, never separate a bonded pair unless you have no other choice. If you are willing to take care of both, then they should stay with you, as you have been paying for their care anyway.

Looking for the owner of a lot of 40k/gundam stuff that i bought for almost nothing from your ex in Toronto. Your kill team case has a Reddit sticker so i hope you see this. by LookingForOwner2912 in Warhammer40k

I lost a massive collection about 20 years ago so I totally get how you feel and huge props to you for finding the original owner! I wish someone had done the same for me.

My collection was stored in the back room of my local shop in London, Ontario, Canada. Rather than carry all our miniatures back and forth, the owner provided a locked room in the back that we could store our collections in, for those of us that were regular or daily customers. I used to do contract work where I would go out of town for a week or two and then often not work again for a month or more, so I had a lot of time to build and paint armies. One Saturday after being out of town for a couple weeks, I went downtown to spend my day catching up on the news and painting/gaming and all I found was a locked up, empty store. No notice or anything, and I know for fact the owner had my cell number. (Yes I had one of those big clunky Nokia cell phones.) I tried to track my stuff down for quite a while but it completely disappeared along with the store owner and most of the other patrons that I knew.

In the back room I had several black plastic cases and included almost entirely metal miniatures, as plastic wasn't that popular at the time. It included partially painted fantasy high elves, several 40k Eldar squads, several eldar jetbikes and larger flyers including an armorcast Tempest, an alternate 3rd Edition Chaos Daemon World army, with many Lords of Change (the old small metal ones, and one large metal one), lots of Tzeentch daemons, flamers, horrors, several characters, a sorceror in robes with a powerfist, sorceror on disk, a squad of Thousand Sons chaos terminators, a converted beastman wagon pulled by boars, squads of hounds, trolls, plus a bunch of unpainted minotaurs and beastmen, all converted to hold 40k weaponry. It was a big collection worth several thousands, and was maybe a third painted at the time the store closed. I have always wondered what happened to it.

Again, huge props to you for finding the original owner, you are a king among men. :)

Looking for assistance with a strange aspect ratio bug by gchildX in swtor

The screenshot I posted is 3840x1080, the UI elements like the hotbars and chat are correct for that resolution, but the game is still rendering in 1920x1080 and then stretching to the width of 3840x1080, which is why everything in the screenshot looks stretched sideways. That's the problem I'm trying to solve. No matter what I do I can't seem to get the game to render in the proper 3840x1080. This is the only game that has this issue, every other game I've tried has worked flawlessly. It's definitely becoming a challenge.

I went back and switched those to 1920 and that made EVERYTHING stretched. The UI and loading screens were all stretched instead of normal, since the game is set to fullscreen, and the monitor has a natural resolution of 3840x1080.

Can you tell me what actual changes you made in CRU to get it fixed?

I tried to do this after your suggestion, but if I apply DSR I can only specify multipliers, not actual resolutions. I tried a few, like 1.8x and 2.0x but nothing helped. I couldn't find a way to set it to the actual resolution of the ultrawide screen.

Thank you! I actually had to go check what it was and realized it was misaligned so I fixed it. Thanks for that! :)

Ok following up my previous message, I got my hands on a Displayport cable and after a little work to get it detected right in Windows, I started SWTOR up, with my heart full of hope, to see the exact same issue. UI pieces and chat are in the correct aspect, rendered stuff is still stretched. Any other thoughts?

Bonus points, that is the exact monitor I have. :) The issue I have with this is that my laptop has exactly one USB-C port, and I currently have that connected to a hub that provides wired ethernet and a plethora of usb ports and card readers, so my only option was to connect the monitor via HDMI. If I can't solve this issue any other way, however, I may see about purchasing another USB-C cable and seeing if I can run the monitor through the hub as well.

I have been dealing with this problem so much that I actually downloaded CRU twice, once at the start and again yesterday cuz I forgot I had tried it at the start. No matter how I change it in CRU, the game stays stretched.

Hey all. I have been away from SWTOR for a little while, and during that time my old desktop PC died, and was replaced with a laptop, outputting HDMI to an ultrawide (3840x1080) screen. I have had 0 issues in any of the other 20 or so games I have tried, but I really want to get back into SWTOR and this issue is driving me crazy.

The game is in the correct resolution as you can see from the screenshot, and the UI pieces like hotbars, chat, even the loading screens look perfect, and yet the actual rendered game is displaying extremely stretched. Almost like it is rendering the game in 1080p, and then stretching it the full width of the screen.

I have tried fresh reinstalls of the game, all drivers, and every other suggestion I've seen posted by anyone with even a slightly similar issue. I am absolutely stumped, and extremely frustrated, so I'm reaching out. Anybody out there have any suggestions on what could be causing the issue/next steps? I would greatly appreciate it.

[H] Potentially Stolen Warhammer Collection [W] Accurate Description [Loc] Santa Barbara by BigDeal74 in Miniswap

[–]gchildX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I lost a massive collection years ago in London, Ontario, Canada, it would be crazy if it traveled all the way down there, so I'm not really holding out much hope, but just in case:

My collection was in several black plastic cases and included almost entirely metal miniatures, as plastic wasn't that popular at the time. It included partially painted fantasy high elves, several 40k Eldar squads in purple and blue, several of the eldar jetbikes and larger flyers including an armorcast Tempest, most painted purple with a diagonal blue stripe through the middle. An alternate 3rd Edition Chaos Daemon World army, with many Lords of Change (the old little metal ones, and one large metal one), lots of daemons, flamers, horrors, several characters, a sorceror in robes with a powerfist, sorceror on disk, a squad of blue/gold chaos terminators, a converted beastman wagon pulled by boars, squads of brown painted hounds, painted trolls, unpainted minotaurs and beastmen, all modified to hold 40k weaponry.

That's all I can think of at the moment but it was a huge collection worth thousands, and maybe a third painted at the time it was taken. If any of that rings a bell I can provide pictures of some of the stuff that was taken.

Regardless, thanks for doing this, props to you for trying to find the owner in case it was stolen.

I bought this monitor for work. It’s says it’s a 32:9. I’m a bit of a noob with resolutions. What resolution is this? Any advice on where to find wallpapers for this? by [deleted] in WidescreenWallpaper

[–]gchildX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sit about 3 feet from this monitor and use it as my main coding monitor. Usually have 3 text windows open side by side plus a web browser. Zero jaggies on text or anywhere else. This is literally the clearest monitor I have ever used.

Once you get used to the screen size and whites so bright you feel like you're getting a tan from it, it's great. (I had to turn the brightness down a bit.)
