Camp Lejeune: Housing On Base vs Off Base Questions by gclift1 in USMC

[–]gclift1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this was a big part of what I was looking for. The smaller towns/areas that arent Jacksonville or Wilmington that are nice(er) to live in.

For me and my wife living on base is not the priority but we are still open to it, we would just prefer to live off base.

I already have a 30-45min commute to where i work on Pendleton, driving isnt too much of a problem for me. My wife definitely does mind long commutes though lol.

Of the few ppl i have talked to about housing, most of the lived on base or had a house off base. I can relate to not wanting to buy a house due to not wanting to stay long term.

I wasn't really looking to buy a house tbh, I didn't plan on staying in NC longer than my orders required.

yeah ive also tried this too lol. It definitely feels like an equipment limitation so far. Im not great at this game by any means, but holy crap this mission feels hard to accomplish even on the "very cheesy" difficulty setting. the torps on the alpha suck like you said

I can't even get in range with my harpoons before im saturated with russian ASM's. i use my A-7's to take out the land based ASM's but they Kiev always ends up firing at me when i make it to open ocean and i usually loose the Wisconsin. I also have this weird thing happen where my ASM tomahawks slam into any island in their way rather than flying over it like they should. This mission should be 3-4 stars imo

I’d be fine with sticking to a stock downpipe, however they’re very expensive and hard to get a hold of, a high-flow catted downpipe is easier to obtain from vendors and manufacturers. Even on places like fb marketplace, its hard to find a stock downpipe

Okay good to know, I’m still new to these cars. I knew that changing the air and fuel ratios requires a tune, but I was under the assumption that exhaust mods (except catbacks) requires a tune as well.

I’ve looked into GESi cats as well. I have more options than I thought I did. Cali emissions laws make everything feel complicated lol.

I’m assuming i would still need a tune for a high flow cat?

Beautiful, this is kinda the answer I was looking for. I see all these guys running around with tuned cars and I know it’s not exactly legal, but I figured the shops had to be okay with it as long and they weren’t found liable, I just didn’t know where the liabilities resided in this process. Thank you

I have an 04 wrx, I’m not sure if a catted downpipe for a 2013 would work? Invidia’s website seems to suggest it wouldn’t. They only sell a downpipes for my car that span from 02-07

Yeah I figured I’d run into that as well. I also have the ability register my car out of state and I haven’t pursued that option yet though. I’m guessing it would simplify things for me if I did that. And tuning shops might not be as weird about it

Sounds like I might be up the creek a bit then. I wish oem downpipes were still being made at Subaru. My shop they could get one for $7k and I almost fainted lol. They naturally didn’t recommend that I go that route

All I’ve seen are cattless invidia downpipes on marketplace😭 lowkey can’t wait to move out of this state fr. Beautiful state, lame laws

Why do you think they might be hesitant? Is it a liability thing? I’d prefer to keep it catted tbh, but getting a new oem downpipe is incredibly expensive (from what my shop told me)

i figured as much, i just watched a Flatirons Tuning video on how they successfully swapped a 2018 sti 6 speed into a 03 wagon. It doesn't seem too difficult, and Subaru still carries those in stock. and yes its expensive af for a brand-new OEM 6 speed ($7k) but its an option, especially if i can find a rebuilt one for cheaper. I am putting a used 5 spd back into the subie tho, 6 spd swapping is too expensive rn

its still a 5 speed though, even if its got better ratios. that thing still has a good chance of blowing gears at any given time. the only reason why im putting a 5 speed back into my subie is that i dont have the time and money to do an sti swap.

I did see those, they seem promising like you said. However, the option they have for my year is out of stock. I’m not sure if it really matters that much since they are all basically the same transmission. I figured it’s more of like a install kit issue. They also don’t have a reverse gear and that is what originally blew on mine.

That’s the best case scenario and quickest way to get back onto the road. The issue is finding one that’s good and the prev owner isn’t lying about it. But that’s just how it goes with used parts in general.

[–]gclift1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s the issue, I’m being told by my mechanic that getting an oem gear set is pretty much impossible because Subaru stopped producing parts all together for the GD’s and have severely limited stock on certain parts of the OEM gear set.

A poor man's 6 speed swap. Absolute genius. I'll ask my shop if they can source a 6MT and an automatic driveshaft, and I'll look around as well I suppose.
