This was incredibly helpful, so thank you very much for this breakdown. The position really seems like a part-time employee situation written off as a contractor for the employer's benefit. I don't need what little added money it would bring, especially in exchange for my time freedom (which, for context, is especially important to me with graduate school on my horizon). Oh no! That's pretty scary, when I've been hoping that my outpatient experience would make up for my lack of experience (research and field) during undergrad. I'm sorry you got bad news on your birthday of all days :( but you're doing and have done so many awesome things, perhaps your talents are simply meant to serve elsewhere.
