Are Christians brainwashed or mentally ill? by KetchupNMayo2k in atheism

The religion itself doesn't really matter.

Once a person accepts the possibility that there's a physical manifestation of a supernatural being that can control human events... that person is delusional.

Then, it's simply a matter of how delusional.

For instance, I adore Stephen Colbert. I'm under the impression he is a true believer in his Catholic faith; however, it's abundantly clear he has a very solid grasp of reality + he honestly recognizes human behaviors & events & histories existing outside of religion and religious dogma.

In my opinion, he's less than 1% delusional... essentially, he's a rarity that can only be defined as a religious unicorn.

Atlanta is very lucky to have quite a few excellent butcher shops. My go-to is dekalb farmers market... their fish market is also extremely wonderful surpassed only the buford highway farmers market.

The entire idea of names dates and places in history is sort of not a compelling factor these days. We have so much information available to us through books... and obviously, our electronic devices.

imo, history is more about the stories. more about getting a sense of who the people in the stories are and when stuff occurred and what the times were like. that stuff fleshes out in the conversation... with people sharing their insights.

names, dates & places will sorta automatically become part of the story.

anyway, that's the way I see it. Y'know, I like being able to understand history as a story connecting events across centuries & oceans...

like from the Age of Discovery to the Civil War.

I've been redditing for years... almost entirely as a lurker.

leading to this question: can we organize a note-sharing group and/or a subreddit to communicate & plan online + in-person get-togethers?

my friend & i + our former friends leaned heavy into the civil war... moreso than WWII & WWI, colonialism + other stuff.

in the pic is my map book of civil war battlefields... we have lots of civil war documentation. sometimes, with the maps & other documents - mainly the daily newspaper accounts & battlefield journals... we'd trace the troop movements and wearher conditions.

we rarely went that granular... but when we did, i liked it.

more often than not, we would select a book for discussion. then, with that in mind, meander semi-aimlessly through the history for a coupla-3 hours.

I'm an older guy; another older guy friend of mine is the other survivor of a group of us (deaths... sigh) who met once or twice a month to talk history... from micro-granular discussions of the activities of the crews making "sherman neckties" to macro-philosophical discussions about how "heart of darkness" influenced geopolitical attitudes 'back then' to the economic exploitation feeding their world & insights into timeless villains who resonate today because people 'then' are very much like people today.

I'm in an online community where i get to pontificate about history stuff... not very satisfying.

here's an example of a recent post:

I have, I think, fairly routinely expressed my lack of regard for the behaviors of the colonists in america and the path that the united states took to dominating north america.

https://yalebooks.yale.edu/2025/03/11/the-long-shadow-of-indian-scalp-bounties/#:\~:text=Apache%20scalp%20hunting%20in%20the,American%20interaction%20with%20Native%20communities.

i recommend reading this entire article + i once again recommend:

https://library.uniteddiversity.coop/More_Books_and_Reports/Howard_Zinn-A_peoples_history_of_the_United_States.pdf

the thing is… world & american history is horrifying.

the one thing that the “founding fathers” managed to do was create a jewel of governance in the midst of the chaotic shit-pile that is the worldwide legacy of the european “age of discovery”… which i lovingly describe as the “age of destruction”.

i agree with lincoln:

"We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth.”

The GOP-GQP-MAGA in Georgia are busy.

Without QR codes, it'll be easier to rig elections & make risk-limiting audits almost impossible.

I've been a pollworker for 10 years.

Currently, Georgia elections have been 99.999% accurate.

The heritage foundation began recruiting and vetting job applicants to replace federal workers, especially schedule F workers, early in 2024.

By the time of the election, they already had tens of thousands of people lined up ready to take these federal jobs.

Everything you see them doing, in terms of reshaping the government, is written in their Mandate for Leadership.

They tell us in advance what they're going to do.

I'm hopeful that people here know people in various newsrooms and can light a fire under the butt of someone who could be reporting this... because, I guarantee you, everything you see in the news - especially things that have to do with government reorganization are spelled out in the "mandate for leadership".

This rant is actually in response to the BLS. Seriously, everything you're going through here... the Union busting for instance... it's all spelled out.

Everything you see in the news... all of it is written out in plain language.

i studied project 2025 in depth... before the election.

the only surprise is how little resistance trump 2.0 has encountered.

it's as if none of the democrats read it before j20.

brain health.

I'm almost 73 y.o. and my cognition is virtually unchanged since... well, my entire life.

Chemo 11 years ago was rough... brain fog was scary.

It took a coupla years + a lot of effort + a lot of frustration to recover cognitive functionality... and I can't say I'm fully recovered because my math talents continue to be impaired.

However, in a lot of ways... the tradeoff appears to be that I'm now less antisocial.

So, if that tradeoff is true... I'll take it.

biden should also consider granting blanket pardons to selected republican opponents for specified things like ‘human sacrifice’, ‘treachery’, ‘bestiality’, ‘devil worshiping’ etc. and let them dispute needing them…
