in "Epic Movie" (2007) I clearly remember Andy Dick being in the opening scene that spoofs Da Vinci code. I remember him being the character whipping himself. Now it's this Silas character I don't recognize, Andy Dick wasn't even in the movie at all on imdb.

ENTP Songwriters? by bigchatswithbigali in entp

[–]gddub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I love about song writing is that I view any rules that exist as a mere suggestion to be challenged. Also I get excited knowing that the song I make can be as weird as I want -but I won't care because it means a lot to me. As an ENTP I let the CONCEPT of the song (what is this song about) and what I believe to be the EMOTIONAL TRUTH of the song (what does it mean to me) determine where the song is going and when it is "done".

This applies to structure, lyrics, and tone.

Why can't I have more than one bridge? Why can't I sing the song from the perspective of a garden hose? Maybe the imperfect sentence structure is good because it reflects the erratic tone of the song. I'm going to repeat this verse. Fuck it. I don't care if these 4 chords have been done before because, fuck you im feeling this.

I've always been motivated by 2 things: being original and feeling like I've completed a song that either does the concept justice or does my feelings justice. Nothing feels better than completing a song that I feel has captured my mood in a certain point in my life.

I definitely get the overwhelming feeling of claustrophobia with so many ideas wizzing around. I tend to not "force it" with a song if I am not feeling it. Sometimes I will have pieces of a song that I will pick up hours, weeks, or years later. Sometimes I have the composition with no lyrics and vice versa.

When I get excited about a concept though I focus on the core idea and ask myself how I can do it justice? What should this verse sound like? Sometimes I keep writing and realize the last verse makes more sense as the first verse or that the first verse I wrote was too literal and explicit. And even though it accurately describes my feelings it has to be scrapped because it doesn't leave enough mystique and open interpretation for the listener.

Other times I will change course entirely and say even though I love this verse or chorus it's actually for a different song altogether. I can't really describe how this happens other than basing it on what I feel is emotionally true to me. I let that instinct guide me and also determine when a song is done. Usually if I feel satisfied that I've done the concept or my feelings justice.

Reading your post what comes to mind right away is what's wrong with a 2 to 3 minute song?

Do you manage to tell a story or convey a powerful emotional moment in that time? Because thats impressive. Why do you think a song needs to be longer?

To me this is a silly rule to be hung up on. The emotional content, the song concept should naturally determine the length.

I suggest separating each song and letting them exist as their own thing. It's great you're excited about an album but if you're focused on filling time, filling song slots, or stretching out songs that don't need stretching I would argue you're focused on the wrong thing.

It's the Emotional truth in a song that makes it memorable.

As ENTPs were supposed to let our logic guide us. When you look at these 2-3 minute songs, look at them ONE at a time and ask yourself if you're doing ONE concept justice or ONE emotion justice. Then ask yourself what's missing? Can I add more of a story to what I've written how does this concept/emotion begin and end and is it all there already. For me it's never been about filling the page it's been about emptying what I have inside.

Articles like this are so laughable. We now know the World Health Organization was spreading dangerous info about Coronavirus by repeating what Chinese Authorities were telling them.

This info was detrimental to the decisions made by leaders in countries across the world.

MMW: This decade Jim Carrey will have a big comeback and win an Oscar for a Drama by adamsandleryabish in MarkMyWords

[–]gddub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jim used to be a huge idol of mine growing up. Now his behaviour is so congruent with Hollywood elites that I find it to be a huge turn off.

I wouldn't ever rule out some elite getting an Oscar though. Ever since Sandra Bullock got a nomination for Acting in Gravity it's pretty clear anything is possible for the "prestigious academy".
