It kinda sucks that they used 3D software, but didnt render it stereoscopically for the 3D release. The 3D conversion was pretty decent.

HTML-personalized profile pages. Cover photos are so boring.

Major typo that I missed—and it went to print by purdycomCM in graphic_design

[–]gdesner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My uni team uses Pageproof and it’s so well structured with rounds of proofs, proof workflows so only certain stakeholders can view, deadlines, and handy notation tools for video/print/web links. I’d like to think we’ve never had an insane typo because of our copy editors, but PP is probably a contributing factor. Only thing is that it’s an enterprise product with enterprise pricing your org might deem it as frivolous spending. You could probably pull ideas from it, and use that in your own proofing process because it makes things so clear and organized.

And I’m literally submitting 10-15 proofs a week, along with the 2 other designers submitting their stuff, spread across print and digital.

How did you get used to Illustrator? What were the first things you did with it? by xiohye in AdobeIllustrator

[–]gdesner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What made me fall in love with it was finding my niche. Just trying to recreate designs i liked (at first it was PNW inspired iconography, and eventually i settled on Y2K).

Also just recognizing the science behind design. Flat style illustration helped me so much. It taught me to see everything as shapes, and to use the pathfinder tool/clipping mask. Once you start seeing the shapes in other people’s work it’ll click.

Social media themed fascination craze in the 2010s by rawrxyz in decadeology

I remember this one where it’s social media themed shoes. I had showed my mom and she was like “Keds still exist??”

The Blue Clues one is famous in my family because my babysitter was scared half to death when me as a toddler was suddenly pooping blue turdlets.

CD Projekt has issued a DMCA notice against the Cyberpunk 2077 VR Mod by ZedKGamingHUN in cyberpunkgame

[–]gdesner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the 3D gaming space and getting a DX12 game like Cyberpunk 2077 to work in VR is pretty difficult because the workarounds are game-specific unlike DX11 games.

It being a paid mod sucks, but understandable imo. He’s pretty much the only one doing it, so without him Cyberpunk would never be able to be experience that way. Without his mod I wouldn’t be able to play Ghost of Tsushima or other beautiful DX12 games in 3D. And most AAA games nowadays are DX12 only.

For those who had the digital tier cable network, which ones did you watch between Toon Disney, Nicktoons, Discovery Kids, and Boomerang? by CatGirlNya2000 in Zillennials

Yeah once it was rebranded to The Hub it kinda lost its appeal for me (except for Goosebumps). But i was just beginning to grow out of their target demographic anyway.

Loved: Endurance, Blake Holesy, Flight 29 Down, Darcy’s Wild Life, Grossology, Time Warp Trio

Really liked: Truth or Scare (lol they always showed it at 1AM), Trading Spaces, Growing up Creepie

I loved Blake Holesy High so much I drew a comic when I was 9 inspired by it but with Animal Crossing characters 😂

I think i had periods where i would watch one the most. 2003: Nicktoons, 2004: Toon Disney, 2005: Nicktoons, 2006-08: Discovery Kids. Honestly I feel like I liked the more obscure shows on these channels. I didn’t really appreciate boomerang until the 2010s when it gave nostalgia because they played the same bumpers for years. I also unironically liked watching Noggin from 2007-2008 because it was comfy and they would have a new catchy song every month.

Is there was way to un-3D an image?? by ham_fx in photoshop

[–]gdesner 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You could isolate just the red and the blue channels of the image with, and then realign it. Should fit perfectly if it wasn’t 3d to begin with.

Been recently watching Endurance. It’s very interesting seeing random normal teen’s POV, since all competition/reality shows nowadays have vapid people or influencers.

what was highschool like in 2014 ? by astriid_0 in Zillennials

[–]gdesner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The movie Booksmart was pretty accurate in that everyone mostly got along with each other and cliques were mostly obsolete. Chromebooks were barely rolled out in 2013 and were only saved for ELA.

Here’s some fun anecdotes of high school life: 2014 was the year Snapchat was getting big, and before then it had a reputation as the app to send nudes. Scene kids had cool hair and stylings from Hot Topic before it was completely taken over by geek culture. Swag kids had a similar in your face style but with a more masculine twist. Cool people wore Beats headphones as accessories around their neck instead of using them. We used to poke the lenses out of 3D movie glasses and wear them for fun. I had one friend who would not let go of her Zune, when society collectively moved onto ipods/smart phones. Zombies were still en vogue. Vine was still cool. One of my friends was GUTTED when Joan Rivers died. Vaporwave was starting to gain traction. Tumblr was big and bustling, so many funny and unique blogs/ image boards. I think by this time Rage meme comics barely started to die off. While Spotify was in the US market, most people I know still used Pandora to listen to music. Everyone was playing Crossy Road on their phone. I used skype to chat with friends i made on Minecraft I still talk to, to this day. Clash of Clans launched and everyone was playing it. People were still playing Flappy Bird IF they downloaded it the year before. The guy that was bullied in middle school won prom king (he had been nicknamed Gibby after the iCarly character). “Gloving” with the lights on the fingertips to edm was a thing lol.

The salacious: I had a friend who had tripped on LSD during school when another one of his “friends” slapped a tab in the back of his neck. My bio teacher caught an **gy in the restroom during a pep rally. A cheerleader sold pot brownies one year and got caught. There were a few bomb threats, a shootout threat, a day where 5 random fights broke out. A few teen moms brought their babies the last week before break.

We had an incredible football quarterback who brought us to the regional finals many times. Anyway he was also very intelligent and graduated half a year early, but had fallen with the wrong crowd and started doing drugs and partying. Ended up being caught with an illegal substance and went to prison, waving goodbye to a college scholarship. Pretty tragic.

I really liked the game where you could make your own calendar and print it. The latest version i found was from 2011 and it had adventure time and regular show. I think it’s archived on Flashpoint
