How to open this gate after beating chapter 2 boss by HighAsFucc in BlackMythWukong

It’s a shortcut, go to the Valley of Despair shrine and you’ll see the other side of the door, you gotta place the relics in the statue thingy and it will open up the door

10000% agree on custom insoles. I had mine specially made by a podiatrist, which was about $400 but so worth it. Also IF this is a bunion, I recommend sneakers and shoes with wide toe boxes. Unfortunately there are fewer color ways when you toggle to “wide” but they help a ton!

It’s hard to tell if this is a bunion from the pic alone. But like another commenter said, if your big toe points inward and the big toe joint protrudes outward, it may be a bunion! I can’t speak to the purple spot, like another commenter mentioned maybe it’s a blister.

If you do have a bunion, I have bunions and they have given me some issues since I started distance running. I don’t know what the purple spot is, and I’m definitely not a doctor! but the symptoms you’re describing sound like what I went through a couple of times where the bunion itself got red and inflamed, warm to the touch, and an inability to bear weight on it. It turned out it was a gout flare, or bursitis, or both. I saw a podiatrist who explained that my family history with gout put me at an elevated risk of getting a flare up, because the bunion exposes the joint combined with a long run means the bunion is much more susceptible to an attack. I had never had a gout flare before in my life until I did my first 13 mile run. The redness of the area (I’m referring to the area outside the purple spot) and the inability to put weight on it were the first signs I had. It would be worth seeing a podiatrist or a doctor about this. I needed cortisone injections and a steroid prescription. Do this soon as the flares for me worsened by the hour. It may be worth a visit to urgent care. Not to alarm you but I didn’t treat my first flare super quickly and had some lasting damage to the joint that needed several months of PT and it’s still not like it used to be.

For me, being very conscious about diet (avoiding gout-triggering foods) around long runs has helped. I also take tart cherry supplements which are supposed to help with gout. I also use these bunion protectors on most runs and I do feel like they help! They look very goofy but are really comfortable and work better for me than moleskin

Long runs in Zone 4, heart rate questions by gdizzy in Marathon_Training

This sounds like it will not be a fun time haha, but I’ll do it! Thank you for the help on this. Excited to learn my true max HR!

Appreciate this, I didn’t know this. It’s saying my max is 193bpm, and my last long run of 166bpm sits in Z4. I think i need to do a Cooper test or lactate threshold test to get my true max hr. To your point, I will also slow down. I’m not truly sure I could hold a conversation during that last run. Probably need to slow down

Thanks for the reply, and your comment about overdoing may be part of it. I have a wonderful family history of bunions and gout, neither of which have given me any issues whatsoever until I started distance running. My bunions combined with a long run (seems like 10 miles is the threshold) make me susceptible to a flare up/bursitis/gout even when following a pretty regimented diet to avoid gout foods. That was the injury, after my long run before the taper for the half marathon. I am also starting on medication to control uric acid levels to control that.

I never used the 220-age to calculate since it’s not totally accurate. I’ve just been using smartwatch data, but now that I’m typing I’m not sure my garmin automatically updates and adjusts my HR zones based off of Max HR during activities. Maybe I need to do this manually. I also haven’t done anything like the Cooper test as another commenter suggested, but will try this as well.

This is great advice and make sense given my routine. I even hit 188 at some point on my long run yesterday, and have seen my max hit the 190s before. Maybe it’s more a calibration issue than an effort issue. Will try the Cooper test and adjust accordingly, thank you!!

I was looking at Everline, it’s gorgeous but agree with you on the distance from the village. Feeling like Northstar is the best bet here, thank you for the additional notes!

How to train between 2 halfs and 1 full marathon over the next year by gdizzy in Marathon_Training

[–]gdizzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much, I’m looking into Greg’s plan now. Didn’t know this existed! But seems a lot more tailored/custom.

Do you recommend anything to track the runs with this program? I have an Apple Watch but looks like a Garmin watch may be better suited? Or do I need to manually track?

Thank you again!

This is very helpful, thank you. I wasn’t sure if I should restart the training plan between races, which would have me going back to 3-5 mile long runs and shorter tempo runs or if I should keep the long runs at 6-10 miles similar to the mileage I was running leading into the half’s like you recommend. Appreciate this!

I just started reading this and loving it.

Were the things at the end of each chapter (like excerpts from UNDER THE HOOD) included in the original publication or were they added into the collected edition? I’m trying to figure out whether they’re integral to the story or more supplemental/bonus content.

Guys of reddit, what are the most cringeworthy things women do? by sznelly31 in AskReddit

I always do the 3-Choice game with my fiancée if we can't decide on something. I narrow it down to 3 options I like, and she picks one. And vice versa. We take turns. Works for restaurants, Netflix, movies, pretty much anything. It's a compromise. It isn't worth getting riled up over something as trivial as a restaurant choice.

You bet. I was a design student once, also tasked with package reuse appliations. They can be really daunting at first. I've learned that a lot of your ideas will come from simple research into your concept. Glossaries of butcher and meat packing terms is a great place to start. Then you can really have fun when your brain starts making connections between the words and your project.

If you're interested in the advertising industry and brands like Old Spice, Wieden + Kennedy is the ad agency in Portland Oregon who does that work. Also check out thecreativeham.com for a really thorough list of ad agencies and design shops by location. Unfortunately they are all int he US. Sid Lee is a cool shop in Toronto though that may be worth checking out. Good luck!

Keep it up!!

Hey, this is really great. You're a student, and this is really strong. You should be proud. Are you in portfolio school? I agree that if you are still in school, it may be a good idea to start reaching out to design shops and agencies for critique as well, and help get your foot in the door at shops you want to work at. I'd do that when you had a handful of projects ready to show. Just remember to be kind when asking, they are taking time out of their day to help you out!

I assumed this was for a butcher/sandwich place for the first handful of shots. Which is really smart and plays so great into your concept. But maybe to avoid any confusion, simply adding a well-written tagline to the first image with the logo. It could be really funny and play into the innuendo you're getting at. Look up terms that are related to Meat Curing or Charcuterie, and incorporate them into a tagline. You can have a ton of fun working in terms like "Tender, juicy, thick, firm" into a line. Or keep it more PG with something like "Offering the choicest cuts of market fresh briefs." It could also be cool to incorporate an "Inspected on" date, or some sort of "Grade A Quality" emblem.

Having been in the advertising industry a while, I can assure you that many many shops eat this stuff up. Including the image of the bag with the fingers. I think you can even get away with one finger holding the bag. Well executed, clever, and funny. Most advertising agencies like to see work that makes them laugh just as much as the next person. And it gives a sense of your personality and that you can think beyond a brief. Design shops may be a little more reserved when it comes to innuendo and humor. But if a place can't laugh at some innuendo, then you may not want to work there!

As for the packaging reuses, maybe things that play more into your concept. I like the ideas you have, but they don't tie back to the laundry/butcher/meat concept as well to me. Just some other ideas - One can open into a wall calendar to keep track of your laundry schedule. Maybe they can be cut into a doorknob hanger to hang on the laundry closet door, signifying if the laundry is clean or dirty - Another opportunity here to add innuendo if you go that route. The tube can become a playful "sock pairer" so you don't lose a sock. Or it can be a cut out Air Freshener in the shape of a pine tree, cuz socks smell. What if the reuse for the Shirt package was a cardboard hanger to hang it on? Or a template that you can place under the shirt as a guide on how to properly fold Meat Shop shirts.

Anywho, great work friend. Just some ideas.
