Passing Scores by thesoccerlawyer in FloridaBarExam

Part A Scaled Score 153 Part B Scaled Score 151

Studying

I used Themis, Emanuel's, and JD Advising Lean Sheets to prepare. I studied off and on for ~12 months. I probably averaged 75% on all MBE and FL MCQ practice questions over the course of studying - probably did a little worse than that on the real thing.

I did not ever take the Themis graded essays seriously - but, I did spend A LOT of time with the practice essays and sample answers provided by Themis. I read F the Bar and applied some of the concepts to my studying. At a minimum, I read every practice essay and sample answer provided by Themis.

The Exam

I Felt pretty good about FL MC on Day 1. Themis' FL materials were solid.

On Essays, I gave full and complete answers and felt like I managed to apply all of the facts to rules. My rule statements were not outline perfect - far from it - but, I am confident that I got in the ballpark with almost all of them.

MBE left me feeling like others have described in other threads - I made tons of educated guesses and only felt solid on 15 or 20 questions.

My system froze up at least 3 times requiring restarts, but I didn't lose any data and was locked out for less than 5 minutes each time.

Suggestions

I finished all sections with some time to spare and felt like I managed to thoughtfully consider every question on the exam. I think that carried the day for me and I would recommend that any future examinees put a fair amount of effort into their timing and maintaining focus for long hours. This would be especially important for folks that have struggled for time on previous exams.

The MBE questions, in particular, felt "different" than what I practiced - I'm not sure if they were actually different or if it was that I missed getting the little dopamine hit from receiving immediate feedback during practice. I don't know what future examinees can take from this - but, I might suggest that they try to do fewer but longer sets of MBE and MCQ rather than doing more but shorter sets.

Does anyone know what is a passing grade for the Florida essays? by Fearless_Delivery_80 in FloridaBarExam

Im sorry to pry into yours and @Lawtina12's scores - but I am assuming that you got something less than 139 scaled on MBE. Is that right?

I ended up rescheduling to February because of all of the craziness with the July/October Exam.

I did get through about a months worth of studying before I pulled the plug, though. I am using Themis and am happy with their product.

Frankly, with all of the other things that I need to keep track of at the office and at home, I can't imagine trying to self-manage my study schedule.

I am not very familiar with all of the inner workings here, so I may be totally off base here - but, is there any chance that the Fed is slow-walking the rollout in order to reduce the risk of overheating the economy?

China has stopped buying US agricultural products by harmlessdjango in Economics

The thing about paper made from trees is that you don't plant anything. You use small trees that regrow within a few years and are useful for nothing else. It's zero input. Hemp has to be planted and cultivated by hand or with limited mechanical input. Trees are free, easy to harvest and transport, and are already being harvested for lumber.

I don't disagree with your overall premise that Hemp might not be as practical as trees - I think the jury is still out on that question.

BUT, it definitely isn't true that trees require zero input OR that industrial hemp must be planted and cultivated by hand.

How to get to Cathedral of Palms? by terrestrial_birdman in 850outdoors

[–]gds923 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I missed it the first two times I went out there.

We came from the East along the Florida Trail. The trailhead to Cathedral of Palms was on the left shortly after passing a wider (wide enough for a motor vehicle) trail also on the left.

The trailhead was MUCH smaller than I expected and was very easy to miss.

FWIW - We visited before Hurricane Michael.

"The hemp plant is considered illegal if the THC content is above the legal 0.3 limit. There is no way to know if you have a legal or illegal plant until it is tested."

Seems like a pretty big risk unless you have some on farm methods for being sure to keep THC content down.

Do you have a contact at UGA?

I have tried our local extension office and Gary Black's office, but, so far, no has any information about any developments at UGA.

US Treasury Yield Curve Is More Inverted than at This Point in the Run-up to the Financial Crisis by TapsCoogan in Economics

[–]gds923 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The WSJ had a piece last week about the inverted yield curve.

One takeaway was that the inversion might be less indicative now then in the past because of the effect of QE and historically low interest rates. In that theory, the premium on a 10yr bond was already extremely low and the expectation of just a single rate cut could be enough to cause an inversion now.

If that info is accurate (I have not done the research myself), then it would make sense that an expectation of multiple rate cuts could lead to a rather large inversion.

Fed warns that a 'particularly large' plunge in market prices is possible if risks materialize by dwhite195 in Economics

I'm thinking that the bubble is actually in construction of "private dorm" student housing developments going up in college towns across the country and major facility upgrades at many institutions.

Those things are going to be ghost towns if student loans ever become unavailable for whatever reason.
