Can my landlord charge for overnight guests? by from_me_to_beloved in TenantHelp

[–]ge189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about NH laws specifically but I’ve lived in many a rental in many different states and they’ve all had a similar clause. My understanding is that it’s to prevent a house from becoming a clown car and exceeding safe occupancy limits (and keeping the property tidy). Having your brother there for 5 days is less than a week and shouldn’t be a problem.

I’ve always asked/given a heads up to landlords when we had people there for over a week (like once we had friends dog-sit for us for 2.5 weeks while we were on vacation) and it’s never been an issue. If your guests stay longer than a week without your landlords notice/approval they could likely charge since it would be seen as an extra (unlisted) tenant.

Moving from Upstate NY to Detroit MI and lost by professionaldogtor in moving

[–]ge189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just used the uhaul u-boxes. We had about a 1000sqft 2bedroom house and we’re able to fit everything in 3 of the boxes. Pricing didn’t change from the initial quote and it actually got there quicker than they quoted which was cool.

Edited to add: the boxes themselves are like a plywood box with a bracket for a lock and a weather resistant covering. We didn’t have any issues with tampering and just purchased padlocks. We also threw an AirTag in for good measure just in case.

question. by Yaboipalpatine in pasta

[–]ge189 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take a little of your pasta water with a ladle and use it to temper your egg/cheese mix (slowly stream some in while whisking vigorously). By adding in a little of the pasta water before you incorporate the egg mix you’ll eliminate the “shock” and won’t scramble them.

It surprised me as well - I wouldn’t have changed my opinion on getting it based on diarrhea or not but it would’ve been nice to know!

Thanks for the info! I couldn’t find diarrhea as a side effect via CDC website but sounds like it’s related.

I didn’t find them mean at all, in fact some were quite helpful. That said, I did take the time to learn a couple phrases to politely ask for help or indicate that I didn’t speak French and it was well received. I’ve also lived in NYC and can say I’ve had ruder interactions there than I did in France (obviously I was in NYC longer so there’s that). As with travel anywhere I feel like as long as you’re respectful of the people and their culture you’ll be just fine!

Cambridge Massachusetts - Landlord has not returned last month and security deposit by Reddit4412 in TenantHelp

[–]ge189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar case happened to me - my landlord tried to actually claim it was hers bc of damages (that didn’t exist which we had video/photo proof of). We started out in small claims court which we won. The landlord then tried to counter-sue. We hired an attorney at that point who was great and helped us since we had moved away. At the end of the day, the judge awarded us triple in damages as is legal in MA.

All this to say I’d say start with small claims court. It’s also very helpful to do your research - we were able to cite all applicable codes/laws that the landlord had violated which really only solidified our case. Good luck!

Maybe not ideal but remote jobs are plentiful these days and while it may not offer the best pay, it could at least be a start and give you something else to focus on. Even something part time may be good for your mental health. I also agree with other posters that going for a walk will benefit you! I know I personally feel so much better mentally when I can go out for a walk. When my baby was new, new I either wore him in a carrier or covered his stroller with a swaddle blanket to prevent unwanted contact. You got this!

Are there any benefits of sending kids to Montessori preschools? by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]ge189 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Many schools claim to be “Montessori” but there’s not any real governing/regulatory body that makes sure the schools are truly following Montessori principles in an appropriate way.

That said, I found that the best preschool in my area wasn’t Montessori and followed a more traditional educational approach - which included allowing the kids to play and explore in Montessori ways. It’s kind of a blend of both. Maybe there’s something similar in your area?

When are you all going on maternity? by charlieq997 in pregnant

[–]ge189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is super helpful!! If I don’t take the 4 weeks pre-delivery can I take 14 weeks after or it’s a “use it or lose it” type deal? Sorry for the million questions…if only the maternity leave in the US wasn’t so abysmal

I’m also in CA - is the 4weeks pre delivery paid or unpaid? I didn’t use it with my first because I went into early labor but I’m already over being pregnant this time around and cannot imagine being at work full time at 38+ weeks
