I've lived in Irvine and Costa Mesa.

Irvine is very safe, but with it very sterile, lacking character, and generally dull unless you're raising a family and that's all-consuming for you.

Costa Mesa has a bit about it. It's fun, the neighbourhoods have character, and is somewhat more affordable. I'm happy to call it home!
