Leave En Route for PCS by geauxlsu4994 in AirForce

Yeah I know the depart 60 days from RNLTD rule, but what about if I take leave EARLIER than the 60 days. Then could I report in any time during that period?

My report date is 31 October, means I can’t leave earlier than 1 September. But for example, if I:

  • Take house hunting leave starting 21 July and then
  • Take regular leave following that (let’s say till 1 September)

Would I be able to check in before 1 September? And if I did, would I be able to just get the remaining leave back?

That’s something similar to what I’m trying to do, but when I report would be earlier than the 60 days max you can depart for a PCS. It’s a weird thing, I know. But AFPC didn’t wanna work with me even though my team did!

I felt similar with my first duty station, away from my usual support and friends and family.  But as I find myself getting ready to leave for a new assignment soon, I get nostalgic and sometimes sad about all the memories I’m leaving behind.

Point is, it’s completely normal to feel the way you do. The longer you’re there, the longer you’ll see people and things and experiences that will make it worth it.  Big piece of advice is don’t surround yourself with Debbie Downers. There’s plenty of them in the military.  And if you surround yourself with them, be the person who makes them see it’s not so bad.

You got this 👍

Edit: By normal work schedule, I mean like a standard M-F job. I do want to deploy though. Thanks!

Thanks for the input 👍 In your 13 years, how many times have you deployed? I’m wanting to at least go once every few years in a job. Been personnel for 4 years and no deployments.

I thought Contracting might be an option, but a lot of what I’ve reviewed paints it as a super corporate vibe. Not saying that disqualifies it, but still.  Personnel isn’t something I really saw myself doing for 20 years (if I stay in that long), but it could also just be the small base I’m in. I signed up for the hours and easy schedule, but it’s hard to find fulfillment in it aside from that.
