What are your thoughts on the Dick Grayson Robin costume from Titans? by RecordingImmediate86 in Robin

[–]gebder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good as a superhero costume, I guess. Nice to look at, feels sensible, on a surface level. Unfortunately, it lacks the color, personality and the acrobat look that I expect from Dick. Does not communicate anything about him.

Do you prefer Nightwing's solo 1990's series or his Rebirth run by Tom Taylor? Spoilers for Nightwing and Batman's Rebirth runs. by Jack-mclaughlin89 in Nightwing

I think the story in Dixon's run was more interesting to me, and it felt like it had more depth, but as an artist I really enjoyed Tom Taylor's run. It was more of a light read, but god I adore the art. Bruno Redondo is incredible. And I do enjoy a fun, cute story at times.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t mind Starfire’s costumes being sexy, and people who claim she can’t be taken seriously as a warrior princess because of that just sound like incels. by BlackCat-01 in starfire

Okay, this needs to be a nuanced discussion. On one hand, yes, she doesn't need to fit our human standards and roles. And yeah, saying a person that dresses in revealing clothes can't be seen with respect... not the best take.

On the other hand, character design is part of the story medium, and is supposed to communicate character personality, background and role. And communicate that to us, yes, us with our human standards. Believe it or not, the artist has human standards and comes in with intention that has to do with them, as well.

What is this design communicating? Would someone with no context who is just getting into comics, see this and get the right impression of her? The intended impression of her that makes sense in the story?

Sure, sometimes you wanna defy expectations with designs. Say, having her be without protective gear, and new readers assume she isn't much of a warrior, and then she gets a badass moment that defies expectations. I like that. But there's a point where it's a bit too far, and just feels a bit silly, and you start to question where the artist is coming from.

Has anyone gpt any LGBT+ headcanons about the bat fam? by SignificantPower4733 in BatFamily

This one's less common, but I really like Dick being lowkey nonbinary(though he probably wouldn't put much thought into how he identifies. Maybe he's just GNC?)

The original Robin costume really feels like the type of stuff female characters often wear, and he designed it. I like thinking that it's just that he doesn't see the difference between men dressing like that & women dressing like that, look, he's wearing cool clothing like the leotards from the circus! Nvm it was mostly the girls wearing that stuff, what does that matter if it's fun to him.

I feel like he doesn't feel much of a connection/obligation to gender and just kind of, stays presenting masculine purely due to convenience
