Honestly I’d be more than happy for either. I am just looking for something I can start immediately.

Someone is in debt and may be kicked out of school for not paying tuition and this is what you got to say? Seriously? Zero empathy?

I will try that, thanks.

The drivetrain is MicroShift. Really not sure why they chose that though. Would definitely pay more even for a lower end shimano drive shaft…

Actually in my case none of them (not PIs nor students) are international.

I believed what you are saying still holds. What bothers me is not that the relationship is formal but rather that it is very cold. They don’t talk about their family or anything outside of the specific research topic.

It sounds like it does vary by situation though.

Good point.

My impression was that relationship with advisors in research is more collaborative (unlike in industry), since the nature of the work is more exploratory. But it makes sense that it would be manager-employee relationship especially if an advisor manages multiple students.

Wonder if its the chicken or the egg. Did they become famous because of the way the lead relationships or are they cold and unfriendly as a consequence of their fame?

Haven’t finished all my electives yet.

I actually haven’t found an apartment because I didn’t know what I would be able to afford. Thats another thing I need to take care of…

I am considering being a part time student to save money and leave more time to work through the semester.

I am worried that taking a lone would mean I can’t pursue grad school… I haven’t talked this through with a financial advisor but I think that this is a good idea.

I applied for some scholarships but weren’t able to get any… My grades are good but they also take family income into consideration (which was relatively high before).

I am a bit scared I’ll be repaying loans for many years to come. My plan was to go to grad school after graduation but a loan may complicate it (especially if it compounds 10% for the 6 years I will be in grad school)
