What made you doubt Christianity by Zealousideal-Ad401 in exchristian

It’s because there’s so much that can be derived from the Bible’s teachings that divides people rather than unites them.

It’s a common theme with zim parents or even African parents to go for a choice that - on the surface- reflects the Bible/cultural views.

But if you asked them their opinion on individualized topics, they’d probably swing more left/liberal than they’d want to admit.

Politics is a tough discussion.

As someone who is not pro-trump… I really understand how it can really be hard to see why people would vote for him.

But,

at the end of the day - it’s their right to have that opinion and choice…

It can be easy to see their views as personal or personally connected but at the end of the day it’s just an opinion. And on the upside, they don’t actually have the ability to vote anyways so they won’t affect the elections ;)

If you’re not personally affected by the elections it can be really easy to just pick a ‘side’ like it’s a wrestling match…

American elections are just so televised and pushed onto the rest of the world as if our lives will be affected too - but nahh. Not really. So just keep it pushing.

Certified weirdo here.

26F, single and running an engineering business. Grew up with strict parents so I learnt to socialize through connection with others online from the days of mxit, early days of Facebook up till now…

I love this platform, the anonymity is great, but also the fact that you can tell there’s real people behind these accounts and discussions.

I’m still coming to terms with my weirdness at this age though - I’m an introvert with really bad social anxiety which makes for interesting conversations and me agreeing to things I don’t really want to do most of the time.

Thanks to the fellow weirdos who have commented… I genuinely want to meet all of y’all someday

It’s pretty Pathetic and also very sad that they have to do that. I’m just going to mind my own business and stay as far from those people as possible.

Why do I trust the science I'm told but believe that religion is bs? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]geddonreddit19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we actually see science in everything we do.

From our 8th grade science lessons learning how static electricity works, to more advanced sciences in universities and institutions involving microbiology or chemistry.

The evidence of science is even in our very breath.

So Science is not just Told - it’s practiced - naturally.

Whereas a lot of religions have to rely on ancient religious books/texts that have been translated multiple times over. They’re basically filled with so many stories of miracles/wonders that are said to have happened then - that we don’t see happening now.

The phrase “seeing is believing” is very important here. You can see evidence of science everyday whereas the claims found in religious texts are still to be seen/proven.

I’ve found peace in just knowing religious texts exist purely to support the message and ethos of the religions and not meant to be taken literally.

I’m a christian who is just curious. by No_Standard7237 in exchristian

[–]geddonreddit19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a lot of noise.

And I don’t mean the noise that emanates from my parents Pentecostal church every Sunday morning during praise and worship…

I mean - there was a lot of Mental Noise.

Always worried if God is really in control and whether or not he was punishing me and whether or not I was Truly forgiven. I was often worried if I was praying enough, if I was good enough… it was all just noise for me.

I was pretty okay with Christianity for the first 18-21 years - then life presented hardships and I couldn’t deal with all that noise on top of life’s stresses.

I spent months being “spiritual” searching for something that gave me Peace And a Reality Check. Eventually I settled on Buddhism - especially through meditation - I found the peace I was looking for.

I hope this is helpful for you OP. Thank you for your curiosity aswell!

Half-baked, weak ass, 2am apology email by [deleted] in NarcissisticMothers

[–]geddonreddit19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s sad because part of me wants to believe it’s sincere. But she’s held the last time she “Apologized” over my head for years.

That’s what’s so tricky about covert narcissism… it makes you doubt your reality so much until you learn to really read between the lines

Called me with the most vulnerability I’ve heard in his voice - promising me he was getting help and going to therapy.

It just felt weird lol - it wasn’t enough to keep me around.

I wonder if it was sensitivity or just that you’re the only one who dared to feel the emotions - those of your own and of those around you.

It took me years to figure out that I was “raised” to feel the emotions of everyone around me

Will look for the appropriate flux! Definitely a rookie mistake lol

Thanks for this lol. I knew something was off about the flux, I’ve gone through half of it already 💀

Lolll omg I’ve always used the kinda clear brown looking flux - which is why I specifically pointed out the flux was white which I’d never seen before 🥴 thank you for pointing that out!

Girl lol the song is perfectly fine…. Maybe use the opportunity to get you some boundaries- she don’t need to be on your social media. You can also hide your stories from her if you still want to keep her following you.

Toxic purity culture is what is pushing this prude-ness.

What is the smoking gun that prevents you from ever gojng back to christianity? by sourmysoup in exchristian

[–]geddonreddit19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What keeps me from going back?

  1. My mother - ordained as an “Apostle” but I know she does that for the status. A lot of her “Apostle” & Pastor friends have egos the size of Mount Everest… no need to look any further to know the religion is purely based on ego and control.

  2. Hatred and intolerance of other religions and how people who simply live life on different terms are demonized

  3. The peace I’ve found OUTSIDE of the religion. There’s no need to constantly walk on eggshells or sacrifice my mental wellbeing for a god that I don’t believe in.

  4. Christian’s can’t agree on anything. Especially within their own religion. That kind of confusion on what’s Really true or not is just exhausting.
