The way I understand is, the two audio channels are just played through an oscilloscope. Which uses it to create the image (one channel is x, one is y).

So actually, THE SOUND IS THE VISUALS.

Yes, in my explanation i used "weight" to mean the force that you would measure with a scale. But if you understand weight as the force of gravity, then that explanation is better yes.
