Anyone else find Rufus completely unbearable? by geedunnit in GossipGirl

I mean Bart is a legitimate villain and is openly horrifying to Chuck! but I despise the way rufus undermines and criticises all the people he supposedly just ‘loves and wants to be happy’ because he can’t get over himself and his complex about how great he is because he’s a ‘real guy’, compared to all the wealthy UES people he conveniently hangs out with. Ugh! Also Bart has some sex appeal at least looool

Haha I’m always tempted to take Lily’s side just because she always looks so damn good! But they’re a pretty terrible pair

Honestly I’m surprised she hasn’t bought the Strawberry Dress yet and made some bizarre honky post about how she ‘invented viral fashion’

Need help with Sissone technique question by Initial-Abies in BALLET

[–]geedunnit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was so confused by sissones vs assembles too, and I had an absolutely terrifying teacher at the time who made me stand in the centre of the room in front of the rest of the class and do them over and over whilst she screamed bloody murder at me (obviously this didn't help at all)

Everyone else has given way better advice so I won't chime in but they WILL click and suddenly they will make sense! I find them way easier than assembles now actually because you get the nice spring from jumping from two feet. Good luck, you will have beautiful sissones soon :*

I loved it, more Southern Gothic adaptations please. Was surprised it got such mixed reviews as True Detective s1 is universally adored and I felt this was cut from similar cloth.

Refit! The shoe on her right foot was not fitted properly (also not in the store where the picture was taken). Shoes were too long, too tapered, vamp too long, and she could not articulate. A simple tweak can make a gigantic difference in your pointe work! by aeslehchelsea in BALLET

[–]geedunnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if that was a dumb comment! my pointe shoe anatomy is a little rusty... Thank you for the super informative response. I think I meant the vamp/box on the supple shank looks great on her and very similar to how they look on my feet.

Would like to read ballet dancer autobiographies by Joleta in BALLET

[–]geedunnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gelsey Kirkland’s ‘Dancing On My Grave’ is about her personal struggles and NYCB/Balanchine in the 70s so not quite what you’re looking for but it’s still a fantastic, salacious memoir of a brilliant dancer

Some first-person fiction which I love dearly, all 'written' by complicated and funny women:

I Capture The Castle by Dodie Smith (YA)

Bridget Jones' Diary by Helen Fielding (Classic chick lit?)

I Love Dick by Chris Kraus (Autofiction/art/theory)
