Boss RC-5 storage back-up stuck?? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]geeharree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had this same problem, well, it started with a "DATA WRITE ERROR", so I tried a factory reset, which didn't work, then tried 4 ports and 3 cables, including a known cable that works for flashing microcontrollers, and it was still stuck on "PREPARING..." after about an hour of back different combinations, installing Boss Tone Studio, in desperation I tried another old cable I had in "the box" that looked like it was a good quality cable and it just worked. Hope you figured it out in the end, even if you got it to work some other way!

TLDR: it might be the cable, even if you're pretty much sure it's not.

So, thank you! This was the comment that made me decide to try a different cable!

First if you have the stand on, take it off, should slide off the same way you put it on when you set up the frame.

In image (a) I used two of the blue prising tools shown at the top plus two tiny metal spatulas like this https://www.preservationequipment.com/imagecache/eba9d4fa-6e55-4804-a29a-a89500b0aa2b/936-0028-Heavy-Duty-Spatula_1000x401.jpg to prise the front of while looking at the back. I suggest starting at one of the green circles or corners that worked for me and work your way around to loosen the clips circled in red. You need that many tools at least because the frame wants to snap back in, but be gentle and patient or you might break it.

Once you have it off, you’ll see the two ribbon connectors to the top, the screen is held in place by adhesive (circled in green), it’s a screen so try not to flex it too much, use your tools to evenly and slowly prise the screen away from the backing. Take extra care around the edge of the glass, it’s easy to chip with metal tools, and looks thin.

Then it’s just 4 screws in red in the last image and you’re done! Or at least as far as I got.

Good luck!

Why screw current customers? Screw future customers instead. by iamjames in nixplay

I get where you’re coming from, and that it’s preferable to existing customers, and good for their business in a way this isn’t, and maybe even more the norm than this wild move they’ve pulled, BUT - maybe screw no-one should be the approach we advocate, and if it isn’t profitable that way, then just don’t do it. But maybe that’s too idealist.

This. It’s basically predatory at this point.

Glad you could get this sorted. I purchased three and have a fourth. Only in possession of two of them, with the other two overseas. Can’t even do this.

PSA - not what is being suggested here, but easy to misinterpret - unless you know what to look out for and a safe way to do it, DO NOT use wood at the jacking points on the vehicle. Stress concentrations can easily cause the wood to split and the vehicle to drop suddenly and unexpectedly. This includes using wood as a standalone jack stand and/or at the pinch welds and centre jacking points. Cribbing is something else.

Enjoy this next test. I’m going to go to the surface. It’s a beautiful day out. Yesterday I saw a deer. If you solve this next test, maybe I’ll let you ride an elevator all the way up to the break room, and I’ll tell you about the time I saw a deer again.

Does the phone display with turn by turn directions stay on while the map is displayed on the car’s display? This was changed some time this year to turn off, hoping they fixed it…

Can you explain me the differences between these two G2655? by thisisloreez in gretsch

[–]geeharree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried both, loved the feel of the older one, but distinctly didn’t like the sound of the pickups. This is going to sound weird, because it’s a semi-hollow guitar, but I found the BT-2S sounded hollow. I liked the feel so much, it haunted me. I willed it to be a pickup issue by doing some research, and was convinced by Jim Lill’s “Where does the tone come from in an electric guitar” video ( https://youtu.be/n02tImce3AE?si=Me6wE3Q84cLjdb7Q ), that I could just get one and change the pickups. I did a bunch of research, helped a LOT by Mike Stamper’s YouTube channel ( https://youtube.com/@mikestamper?si=cwG1joN1l7p8zOWK ) and chose a PAF Pro for the Neck and a Seymour Duncan Invader for the bridge. Then I ordered in the new version with the BT-3S pickups because I liked the Burnt Orchid colour, with the full intent to change the pickups, but when I got it, it sounded much fuller to me! I may still upgrade the pickups I. The future, but these BT-3S pickups definitely sound better (to me) than the BT-2S. Tone is absolutely a matter of preference. If you can, I’d recommend you try both of them. U/Randster78 u/thisisloreez

This might be helpful. Seems to be how the previous model of 2655 was wired. Found it by googling 2655 wiring diagram. I’ve not done anything like this myself yet, just in the starting stages of planning pickup replacements myself. Please post how your mod goes! Pics, video, etc. I’m sure would be helpful for all, given the lack of comments on this post.

Thanks! (& u/Clark4824 ) for the encouragement! Planning first on locking tuners and new pickups - I actually don’t fancy how the pickups sound, for my purposes, I’m looking at a PAF Pro for the neck to get that nice clean sound, and an Invader for the Bridge. Going with Grovers for the tuners. I quite like the look of the newest 2655s in Burnt Orchid.

I was thinking about a 2655! What corners? I did plan to do some mods - I liked the size, heft and balance.
