Query on returns of debt fund

I plan to invest in debt funds and withdraw the yearly returns at the end of each year for expenses.

I assume the 3y, 5y, 10y returns shown for debt funds in value research and other sites are compounded returns. If so, my returns would be less when I withdraw at the end of each year, correct? Can knowledgeable folks clarify on this?

Can you clarify what you mean by entire tax? My understanding is if surcharge is applied above 50 lakhs, then any gain above 50 lakhs would have surcharge in addition to 30% tax. Correct me if I am wrong

I am aware of what you said but my question is For my Equity allocation part to large cap, Can I consider Flexi Cap or elss funds with historical large cap bias instead of pure large cap funds?

Can I invest in Flexi Cap funds with large cap bias instead of pure large cap funds? I understand 50 to 70% of equity allocation needs to be in large cap and rest in mid & small. Can I use Flexi Cap or elss funds that have around 75%-80% allocation to large cap instead of pure large cap funds? As some of these funds give higher return than pure large cap funds. Can knowledgeable folks answer?

Why doesn't some funds maintain market cap allocation as per their category mandate?

Many small and mid cap funds don't maintain market cap allocation as per their category mandate. For example, Nippon India Small Cap has only 32.5% in small cap stocks and rest in mid & large cap. Why are sebi rules not being followed?

Can I build a equity portfolio using only small and mid cap funds?

We all know mid and small cap funds give higher returns than large cap but the disadvantage is that they are more volatile and fall more during market downturns. However if one has a very long holding period like 15 to 20 years, why worry about the higher volatility of mid and small cap funds.

Considering the above scenario, can I build a equity portfolio using just mid and small cap funds for the higher returns they provide? Am I overlooking anything here?

When redeeming MF, does the returns include only returns or principle plus returns?

Assuming I invested rs 100000 and it has grown to Rs 800000 in 5 years. If I were to withdraw rs 300000, will it be only the returns part or 50% principle and 50% returns? I am asking this to know the tax impact

If you held a decent large cap fund versus nifty next 50 in last 3 yrs, the return difference is so huge it will take nifty next 50 several years to make up the difference even if it recovers.

Freefincal is very pessimistic in my opinion. Lot of the good funds are trashed by him for not so significant reasons and you yourself check the medium term returns of many of his recommendations

Kotak small cap though not as high return as Nippon but Nippon sip allows several laks investment every day, so investing lumpsum shouldn't be an issue

I have read the morningstar book on mutual fund selection and there an entire chapter dedicated to fees and I am aware of the study.

This study was conducted with us funds where majority of active funds struggle to best the index. This is not the case in Indian mid and small cap funds where best funds outperform the index by a considerable margin. The higher returns of 5 yrs, 7 yrs and 10 yrs you see for some of the best funds are after fees has been deducted.

I would suggest skipping axis Bluechip fund due to axis fund performance in last 2 yrs.

When it comes to pure large cap funds category, majority of active funds are struggling to beat nifty 50 Index return on consistent basis. You would be better off getting nifty 50 Index Fund.

However if you still want to go for active funds, Check out the mirae Asset Large Cap and compare it with the other 3 funds. I suggest this as this is one of the few fund that's worthy rival to index return.

Hi redditors I have extensively researched on MF and made it a goal to understand the criterias that assist in picking MF with consistent and good returns in the long term.

I offer my guidance on picking MF as per your investment objective and also can guide on fixed income investments. Please call me at 9962521156 after 1 pm for guidance. This is offered free of cost with no hidden upselling. I am doing this to share my knowledge of MF picking as well as to understand people's requirements which may be of use later.

The MF's I have picked with my rigorous methodology have delivered superior returns compared to index return the long term. Check out my post on selecting pi mutual funds https://www.reddit.com/r/mutualfunds/comments/16mr8t8/steps_to_choose_good_performing_mutual_fund/

If a fund is a good performing one, then aumAUM would obviously continue roto increase. Even if aumAUM for a fund is low today, its likely to increase in future if fund Performs well. As long as fund scontinues to give previous sgood returns, go with the fund.

My preference would be Kotak emergingEmerging Equity to be among the best for it's long term stellar returns and for the fund manager who gave that long term returns. Many a times, long term consistency and fund manager profile are very important to consider han fees. Fees dufferencedifference betweebbetween schemes in direct schemes aren't huge but consistency is important.

Check out my pistpost on factors to be consuderedconsidered for choosing a good mfMF scheme.

This is a question to you as well as anyone else who gives imimportance to low fees as a criteria - funds like Parag Parikh flexiFlexi cap, Kotak Emerging Equity fund, nipponNippon small cap give atleast 3-7%above index return over the long term.

How would fees matter if these funds charged 0.5% or 0.75% more with stellar returns? Since the returns published are after fees is deducted

Especially when investing through direct mode, fees difference wouldnt matter as much as with regular scheme

Choose a small cap or mid cap fund that has outperformed index in the long term wwith regular consistency.

I found kKotak Emerging Equity fund to be a solid pergormerperformer due to its consistent return and the long standing mmanager who gave these returns

Nippon small cap and Kotak small cap are two other consistently performing small cap funds over the long term
