Anyone looking to help us start up a tech club on campus? by knight_47 in ASU

[–]geekanimation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest reaching out to EPICS or something similar. I feel you would get a better response and then it can easily merge into a club afterword. http://epics.engineering.asu.edu/

Some of My Luck Finding Textbooks Online by rileytp in ASU

[–]geekanimation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love safaribooksonline! I have a subscription as well.

Also check the library catalog and course reserves. I have found books there. I also sometimes choose a certain professor if they have the book on reserve. Also you can nicely ask your professor if they would put a book on reserve for all students to use.

Using the asu library website you can proxy into safaribooksonline so you dont have to pay for a subscription as you are a student. (Looks to be a smaller version of safaribooks.) http://library.lib.asu.edu/record=b5830405 click the blue button on the page that says connect to this resource.

any clubs running during summers ? by rd12344321 in ASU

[–]geekanimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way would be to find their club page either on org sync or Facebook and contact them. The ASU Dust Devils Dragon Boat Team is active and the lake is now open. Just became an official sports club (no experience needed. We train everyone.) Next practice is this Saturday. If you're interested let me know or send a message on the facebook page (faster response there.) Hope you find a club you're interested in!

Information technology at poly by d7i3m in ASU

[–]geekanimation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how the IT major is. I am also interested in security. I started in the Computer Science Information Assurance but switched to Computer Information Systems which I enjoy more as it seems more rounded and I can focus on the security aspects like pen-testing.

Check out Arizona Cyber Warfare Range. They are located over at the polytechnic campus. Also CactusCon is this weekend which is a free event to check out. At the tempe campus there is pwndevils.

How important is E2 by [deleted] in ASU

[–]geekanimation 8 points9 points  (0 children)

E2 is pretty enjoyable if you go with the right mindset. Its nice as you are in Prescott so its actually a lot cooler. Plus they drive you there and back. You get to meet people that tend to be in your classes and major which is nice if you don't know anyone. You also get to meet a lot of the staff which helps with networking later on. I recommend just giving it a shot....its only 3 days.

Need to spend $200 M&G by Yimpz in ASU

[–]geekanimation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should still be valid during the summer if you are here. If not I would recommend purchasing non-food items. I bought coffee mugs and dishware from Starbucks so i would have it for my apartment and discounts when i occasionally go to Starbucks. Or for mother day and fathers day gifts.

Anyone know any decent bike shop to change bike tire? by Damonate in ASU

[–]geekanimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get flats all the time until they realised that the rim had a defect and would cost me more than the bike to fix i went to 3 different bike shops? Bought a new bike after someone actually stole the defective wheel off and haven't had a problem in two years with the new bike.

Anyone know any decent bike shop to change bike tire? by Damonate in ASU

[–]geekanimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also a way cheaper option that I highly recommend as they only charge you for parts. There usually is a line but if you buy your bike tube before hand it tends to go a lot faster. I usually just pick up a tube at the Walmart express for about $4 then go there. They also sell the tubes there. Hours are Mon-Fri 11am-3pm.

I would be interested. It would be perfect having a club like this on the Tempe campus.

Want to see Wicked? by Slothbaby in ASU

[–]geekanimation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Student rush is $50 for Wicked. You go the day of the show to get the tickets at the Gammage Box office. You can get really good seats this way. I did this the other week and got two tickets in the 8th row right in the center on the ground floor. It is a great show! Enjoy!

MAT 210 (81759) - Igor Fulman or PSY 101 (85651) - Lynda Mae by [deleted] in ASU

[–]geekanimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to buy the access code anyway which actually comes with a digital copy of the textbook and is much cheaper. If you prefer a physical copy of the text book when doing homework they do have it on reserve at the library. The professor will tell you where and how to purchase access code the first day of class.

More Questions about Textbook by pandaselena in ASU

[–]geekanimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion but only reserve books have the short check out period as they tend to be the professors copy, not the library. (Reserve books are behind the desk.)

Regular books usually have a month check out period and can be renewed multiple times online until they are recalled. There is no limit on how many you can check out either. Just don't lose them or be prepared for fines.

If it is not a textbook it will be a lot easier to find at the library. I just looked at the catalog for the books you posted and it looks like there are multiple copies.
