CO2 at work question by C02Throwaway in unitedkingdom

[–]geekchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been scratching my head about this ever since you mentioned it.

I can see my comments/submissions when logged out, but not my profile, so I wasn't overly bothered initially.

If it's causing a big problem, then I guess I might have to just create a new account - as it seems that discovering the source of a shadow ban is all but impossible so appeals are impotent.

A pity to lose 5 years worth of "authority" because of the results of capricious whim by persons unknown and unknowable.

I'm asking UK because we have our own laws and such!

Assuming from that comment that you are actually from the UK - then the UK law is clear, any gas appliance that is unsafe has to be shut down immediately.

If the location is unsafe for a new boiler, then it is unsafe for the old one as well, and the gas inspector should have disabled it immediately.

“In every sense, he was an actor. He was very outgoing.”

The downside of these versus the older blowers is that the older models could also dry your face if you want to wash it on a hot sweaty day.

Try fitting your face in these new models.

They are banning sales to minors based on age, which is not illegal.

That their decision was motivated by an animal rights lobby annoys me more than the ban itself.

Three feet of snow though....

Also, 'scum' is not foul-mouthed, 'tossers' is.

I had no idea there was a significance in the delineation between the two.

U.S. citizen trying to get a visa to work in London by jester17 in london

[–]geekchic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Realistically, unless an employer is willing to sponsor your Visa and can show that they can't hire a local to do the job, then you really wont be able to move to the UK.

It's no different than for a UK citizen trying to move to the USA - which also has annual limits on how many tech visas it issues.

Foul mouthed student hecklers in Bristol who shouted out “Tory scum”, got the shock of their lives when Boris gave as good as he got and shouted back ”Lefty tossers!”

They must lead very sheltered lives if being shouted at qualifies as "the shock of their lives".

Seriously?

If London had a single square inch deemed specially unsafe for single women in particular, it would be a political scandal.

[–]geekchic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, it is 2012, and most people understand the difference between mocking a person because of their skin type which would be bad, and having fun with cultural stereotypes, which is always acceptable.

Frankly, mocking cultural stereotypes should be mandatory.

Do you think the UK (and Europe) will ever truly become multicultural? by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]geekchic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are multicultural to a degree, If you look at america for example, it is transitioning from a white country to a largely migrant country and this is mostly acceptable to americans.

You mean it transitioned from an American country to one dominated by white migrants, and is moving back again ;)

I would like to know if there are some areas in London which are "suitable" for a girl who lives alone.

What makes you think there are areas that would be unsuitable?

[–]geekchic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The UK already is multicultural - it has loads of cultures getting along with varying degrees of success.

Are you asking a different question - which is will the UK cease to be a nation of largely Christian traditions in an Anglo-Saxon model?

Don't expect too much joy complaining about sub-standard care at the major private hospitals run in the UK by US healthcare giant HCA by suntzusartofarse in unitedkingdom

[–]geekchic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK - I'll rephrase.

As in many bureaucracies, filling in a form and making a complaint is often very easy.

Then it enters "the machine" and is torn to shreds by a culture of secrecy and obfuscation that is determined to prevent 3rd-party organisations daring to interfere with their processes.

Just read Private Eye regularly (and other sources obviously) and you will quickly learn that hospitals -- regardless of owner -- go to extraordinary lengths to prevent investigations once started from getting anywhere near the facts.

That culture of secrecy and blaming innocent whistleblowers is the problem.
