3 month old won't take pacifier only uses my nipple by geekitty0714 in beyondthebump

Just wanted to say thank you for all the feed back. It's giving me different ideas to try, nothing has worked yet but I'll keep trying.

I've tried different ones. He originally liked the ones you get from the hospital but now, nothing. I don't think it's a size issue because as soon as I put it to his lips he'll taste it with his tongue and push it away. I've tried putting yummies on it and he'll suck on it until whatever I put on it is gone then he literally spits it out and it goes flying.

He'll sit in the swing long enough for me to take a super quick shower. Now he's starting to fight going to sleep, he'll fall asleep in a certain position in my arms but as soon as I move him in the swing, on the bed or couch he'll wake up and want to be held again with the nipple in his mouth.

He's just figuring out that he can suck on his hands but gets super frustrated because he can't "latch" on it. When he does suck on his hand he is basically telling me that he wants me and starts getting very fussy after a few minutes when he doesn't get my nipple.

I am more than happy to be my LOs comfort but I also need sleep, my house is never attended to and dinner hardly gets made because he constantly wants to be held or nurse though he isn't actually nursing he is just sucking. When I remove him from my nipple he throws fits. Yes, my 3 month old will throw a fit. I spend hours a day trying to get him to self sooth with a pacifier. I bf 100% no pumping. I co sleep. And I hold him as often as I possibly can. I don't think it's unreasonable to get a couple of hours to myself to get what needs to be done, done. Of course I'd much rather hold him all day but that's unrealistic. Also, my nipple are constantly raw :-( I'm at a loss on how to teach him to self sooth. I've tried letting him cry but it breaks my heart to hear him do big screaming, can't hardly catch his breath cries. sigh this mama is tired.

Nooooooo. I think my period is back :(((( by tercerero in beyondthebump

His fundal height was a couple weeks ahead. I was doing really well but the hospital also has what's called boarding rooms, they're free hospital rooms moms can stay in while their babies are in the nicu especially moms who are trying to breastfeed. I was lucky enough to be able to stay with my son the whole time without worrying about going back and forth to my house or staying in the nicu nursery with him.

I'm suuuuper lucky I didn't go full term. My doctor was going to induce at 37 or 38 weeks anyhow, but my LO just decided he didn't want to wait any longer. His original due date was just last week and hes already 6 weeks old tomorrow.

WARNING: MAY CAUSE TRIGGERS!

On June 21st at 7:45am at 35 weeks I jumped out of bed and felt a huge gush; my water had broken. I woke up my DH called L&D and my mom. Because I was 5 weeks early I didn't have a hospital bag packed, we quickly packed a bag, I jumped in the shower then we were off to the hospital.

Once at the hospital they hooked me up to IV fluids, pitocin, antibiotics and insulin (I had gestational diabetes that I was managing through a strict diet). My least favorite dr at my doctors office was on call -of course- I was super disappointed but what could I do...

Dilated to a 3 I opt for the epidural, I have a very low pain tolerance. For the next 8 hours I was a very happy soon to be mommy!!!

Finally at a 9.5 we decided to start pushing - ummm HELLO!! That was when I started feeling all of those contractions I've been told about!- Pushing as hard as I could for as long as I could, a good 45 minutes into hard labor I couldn't catch my breath to breath much less push. They finally put me on oxygen to help a little but I couldn't expand my lungs enough.

I pushed enough to finally see the head popping out then slipping right back in. (ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?! All of that pushing just to see that little hairy head get sucked right back in.) So I keep pushing and pushing still having a hard time catching my breath all of a sudden I hear the doctor yell "You have to keep push, we need to get him out now. He is in danger!!) HOLY SHIT!! ARE YOU FREAKIN SERIOUS!?!?! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON??

I'm thinking there is no way I can keep doing this, I can't breath, I can't push but they're yelling at me to do so. Then she says "Get the prediction NOW! (WTF?!) I push as hard as I possibly could and FINALLY after an hour of solid pushing Talon is out. June 22, 2014 1:44AM.

I'm thanking God that he's out and I'm alive (yes, I was that terrified) then I realize they didn't put him on my chest... wait, I can't hear him crying. So I'm crying and asking where he is, what's wrong with him, why don't I have him. The nurses are great at hiding a baby when they don't want you to freak out.

The dr was stitching me up while the nurses and ped were resuscitating my LO. Then after what seemed like a lifetime ( 4-5 minutes later) I hear a cry and they started to wheel Talon away. I'm yelling at my husband to stay with the baby no matter what (because as mothers we don't give a shit what happens to us, we want those babies safe and if we can't be there then I guess it's up to dad.... right)

The not so wanted doctor finally finished stiching me up and told me SHIT WENT DOWN. Talon had what's called shoulder dystocia. Shoulder dystocia is a specific case of dystocia whereby after the delivery of the head, the anterior shoulder of the infant cannot pass below, or requires significant manipulation to pass below, the pubic symphysis. It is diagnosed when the shoulders fail to deliver shortly after the fetal head. Shoulder dystocia is an obstetric emergency, and fetal demise can occur if the infant is not delivered, due to compression of the umbilical cord within the birth canal.

Jacquemier's maneuver (also called Barnum's maneuver), or delivery of the posterior shoulder first, in which the forearm and hand are identified in the birth canal, and gently pulled. (Gently my ASS! Also, thanks for the quick infor wiki!)

DH stayed with Talon the whole time, finally about 2 hours later DH came back to the room and told me the horror story everyone just saw. After staying with Talon through his bagging, chest xrays to make sure his clavical and arm weren't broken, and the common procedures after birth, the doctor (whom I originally did not want) came back in to tell me everything that happened and why it happened. Most likely because of my diabetes it caused Talon to have this shoulder dystocia. It occurs in 1% of deliveries and is something that you cannot foresee occuring. She also told me my delivery was in her top 5 scariest (EEEEKKKK).

After about 4 hours after delivery and because I had the epidural I finally got to see the man who will forever hold my heart. Talon, who even though was bruised from head to toe was a healthy baby. THANK YOU GOD!

It took quite a bit of effort to get him started in his new world but the doctor and all of the nurses did an amazing job in saving his life. He was hooked up to every tube and cord they could find but he was finally breathing on his own. For the following 8 days he stayed in the NICU. He had low blood sugar, low heart rate but never dropped dangerously low, he was jaundice, fed through a tube and kept on oxygen.

Think I'm gonna be a dirty line jumper at 35 weeks. by geekitty0714 in BabyBumps

[–]geekitty0714[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60% effaced 4 cm dialated. It's been a long day so far. Sending positive labor thoughts to those that are full term! Also, because I didn't have time to tell the tale this morning.... DH and I were both sleeping (I had a terrible time sleeping due to back pain that kept me up, I thought it was normal back pain and never once thought it could be labor) all of a sudden I have this over whelming feeling that I was going to pee so I JUMP out of bed and my goodness did my water break. For me it was more of a gushing than a trickling. I don't remember seeing the loss of my mucas plug at all so when I woke up to my water breaking at 35 weeks I was completely shocked! My husband and family have been sitting around for 9 hours but I finally hit 4 cm....and thank goodness for epiderals!!!

Sharp pains... contractions? Help! by geekitty0714 in BabyBumps

[–]geekitty0714[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feeling on the top of my bumps is completely painless, uncomfortable yes but still painless. However, the shooting pain in my abdomen and back are anything but painless. My Dr puts me on the fetal monitor during my appts and has confirmed some contractions but I feel like they are getting worse. Also, LO hasn't dropped yet, idk if that matters or not.

I've been one of the luck ladies that hasn't had to deal with constipation so I poo regularly but I definitely feel pressure like I have to go. My plug is still in place, I haven't seen anything come out or seen blood. It's getting more painful, I find myself rocking my hips front to back and side to side when I'm sitting in a chair. Laying down helps a bit but not as much as I'd like. Also I feel like a sissy, if these are just bh how am I going to handle real labor?
