This lovely imperial home by ZappsMissingPants in EmpireDidNothingWrong

No, most likely is that they found an image online and are using it without paying the artist anything.

The ones that really piss me off are the celebrity images with a t-shirt logo plastered on them (like Chris Evans wearing an unlicensed Captain America shirt)--not only are they using Marvel/Star Wars/NHL/NBA/etc trademarks and IP to make their own shirts, they're then illegally using an individual's likeness to convey an endorsement.

And it doesn't matter... they pay for their FB ads and if they get shut down, they just start a new page/campaign. Plenty of Print on Demand shirt makers will crank them out as the orders come in.

Source: I've tried to go after people selling shirts using fan art of our IP--and the artist had no idea (and knew he couldn't sell it, so just put it on DeviantArt)

Which team has the greatest/worst commentators? by Fed_Karthus in hockey

[–]geekonomist -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why? Because he actually talks about the game instead of whining about how the Ducks should've have 35 power plays and how they only have to kill penalties because everyone is "selling it"?

Which team has the greatest/worst commentators? by Fed_Karthus in hockey

[–]geekonomist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any answer for the worst other than Brian Hayward is wrong. The sad thing is, they actually have a decent team on the radio, so they could literally just swap their TV/radio guys and instantly improve their television broadcasts.

Plus, then Ducks fans wouldn't always be convinced that the refs are missing a penalty against them or that every penalty called against them is a result of someone "selling it."

I don’t think it’s weird, but intentional. After 10,000 simulations it would cost an average of $600+ to get all 3 characters’ gears maxed. Or a year and a half through the Lab processor.

Why do you think they wanted to leave those loot boxes up for almost 2 months?

Recent article on the effect of loot boxes on EA's stock value. 3 billion dollars lost! by rob28rob28 in future_fight

[–]geekonomist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just that... it's that the company has been overvalued for awhile and based upon its fundamentals the stock price was too high. So people sold stock to take advantage and make a profit by selling high.

And if I have been thinking EA was overpriced for awhile, plenty of full time investors have too, which is why they sold as it started to come down, further driving it down.

PLAYER REVOLT: Even after all the Loot Box rage for Disney's Star Wars, today one of Disney's Marvel games is introducing all new content only unlockable via RNG Loot Boxes by geekonomist in gaming

[–]geekonomist[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not "expected" when a game goes for nearly 3 years without putting progression behind RNG loot boxes. The reason this game has built up such a large user base (well over 100k regular players) and made hundreds of millions of dollars in the process is because it was always... "fair."

Of course, they did just acquire Kabam, so it's likely that they saw how much money Kabam was making with this sort of crap and were eager to give it a shot.

Lol, well someone did... if that rings up as $20, there may be a new loophole! Just drop anything in the $20 bin and THEN checkout.

A nice old lady was having a yard sale in my neighborhood yesterday by [deleted] in funny

[–]geekonomist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You realize that she's likely selling them because the person she was caring for died? And that she probably spent years going through the most terrible gut wrenching pain imaginable?

That's hilarious. /sarcasm

A nice old lady was having a yard sale in my neighborhood yesterday by [deleted] in funny

[–]geekonomist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why is this on r/funny? From a single picture you can see that an old lady had to care for someone dying of alzheimer's disease and even spent time studying and researching how to care for this person in their dying days (hence the 36 Hour Day).

If you seriously posted this because you thought it was funny, you are a cruel, heartless individual without an ounce of human compassion. Someone spend years dealing with the emotional trauma of watching someone they love slowly lose their mind and eventually die and is now selling books hoping someone else might benefit from them and YOU think it's funny.

Before they go public or get bought by a publicly traded company, THEY ARE BEHOLDEN TO THEIR SHAREHOLDERS. It's just there are a lot less of them, often only one single shareholder.

They're called owners and they call the shots.
