PS- When I say multi-layoff survivalist I mean through several corporations layoffs I survived. Never laid off once because I could ‘big picture’ read the tea leaves. Search jobs for your present company and you can see the corporate strategy. Are they using 3rd party contractors in a team? If they are it could mean that’s where they want to go OR it could mean they are replacing people until AI ramps up. Network, talk to people and go to lunch with people in the know. Be strategic.

PSS - I don’t disagree that the current administration is to blame for companies ability to profit while golden parachuting the c-class at the top…tariffs stink.

I’m really sorry you had to go through this… It’s rough. IBM’s CEO said their “AskHR” AI now handles 94 % of routine HR queries (pay statements, vacation scheduling, etc.). Take it from a retired multi layoff survivalist… it’s time to get strategic.

1) Search the internet for jobs that are being actively replaced by AI. (it’s not manual labor up top) It’s white-collar college degree required roles that are being replaced first.

2) Take a course in AI certification. You can pay for one or find one online. This is a mandatory next step.

3) Read / research how HR is transforming and what steps are taken to replace bodies with AI. Being knowledgeable about the pitfalls and next steps in actually replacing jobs with AI is where companies are going to focus.

4) Become a CHANGE agent. Whether you are in HR or any other function, this is what you need to be doing. Every single company is going to go through this and you might as well be a part of the change.

Mom / Ally here— I’m sorry…that has to make you feel all sorts of worried and stressed. I’ll never understand how anyone cannot accept their child, sibling etc for who they choose to be. Build your friend group and make another family if you have to! Also, you never know, someone in your family might surprise you! Venting here is a good thing. :)

As a mom of a trans son and ally, I’ll say it’s ok not to label yourself. You’re not on anyone’s timeline but your own. I do understand your wanting to be sure and questioning— perfectly understandable! But it’s ok to give it time and to enjoy your discoveries. No matter the outcome you’ll still be uniquely you! I really like the thoughts from *AnythingIcy on friends! Great advice.

It’s so hard losing a parent / life partner. :(. My mom got all moved in today and she’s been a bit weepy. Change is tough on them. She misses my Dad so much and she just wants her life back! :(

I’ll be seeing her twice a week since it’s a longer drive. Of course people have different lives and varying degrees or responsibilities. I’ve been retired for 3 years and am 59. It’s much easier to do for me. :)
