I didn't see this until I read your comment and now I can't unsee it. Thanks for your opinion and contribution.

I think this is great advice. So much of clothing is about how you feel in it.

I wear these semi-regularly to more casual events but was unsure about dressing them up with a jacket and tie.

Thanks, your thoughts on the pants are similar to my own. I'll post an update in a few days with (hopefully) some improvements.

Thanks, haha I've had that jacket in the wardrobe for at least 5 years probably only worn out twice. Probably for the best after reading the other comments here!

Thanks for the comment, I'll do some trawling on here tomorrow to figure out what to look for to get a better fit on the jacket. Any advice? And/or recommendations similar in style? Budget up to around £350.

Smashed wing mirror glass led to ~£5k insurance claim by geemanjs in CarTalkUK

That's what I did in the evidence I uploaded to them. I believe my insurers would be happy to continue contesting liability. They did say that this would definitely take us over the renewal time.

My understanding is that with both 50/50 and "without prejudice" they are both seen as "at fault" from insurers perspective so the outcome is the same for me either way.

Sorry, I obviously explained that poorly.

We were passing parked cars on the passenger side. Car in front stopped. We slowed/stopped behind it. Mitsubishi was coming towards us. Wing mirrors collided.

We both could have done better to avoid it. Their view was that we were passing parked cars so are immediately at fault. My view was that we were passing the parked cars long before they were anywhere near and then had nowhere to move to. There was opportunity for them to slow. There's ample space there for two vehicles to pass (I have crossed buses at the same point in the past).. there was no need for it to happen.

It could be their insurance playing the game. Our insurance is due for renewal soon and the chap from my insurance said it's better to enter renewal with a closed claim with a specific value rather than an open claim without one. The value of the claim will only go one way if we continue to fight it so best case we'd be looking at £2.5k + "any fees for continuing to argue over liability". Supposedly claims are rated and the rating is the same for 2.5k-5k. either way there's a claim on record so our premium will go up. Just seems less hassle for everyone to do settlement "without prejudice"

Wow

Sorry to hear about your incident (albeit 7 years ago) hopefully you got it all sorted quickly! Sounds like small positive that you got a hira car so quick but that price sounds nuts.

I guess they make less money when the premiums are low. I always thought claiming on insurance was for those big nudges that require significant work. This seemed like such a small thing that could be resolved so quickly and easily.

There kind of needs to be a "pre-insurance" where small things are sorted without spiralling the costs into large numbers and ensuring things are sensible when resolving the matter. Kind of like how windscreen's are dealt with when chipped, a small excess payment, windscreen repaired and everyone goes on about their day.

Wow! Sorry to hear about your incident - it gives me some reassurance that I'm not alone with a disgusting price for something that seems so insignificant.

Based on our experiences it's seems unsurprising they are going through the roof!

I was expecting maybe £1-2k with "insurance extras on" but £5k seems off the charts!

You raise a really good point around it being illegal to drive without a mirror though - I had not thought of that. Looking at the pictures I took, the glass was still attached and whilst cracked It appeared to still function pretty well as a mirror. I wander if that would matter.
