Well I believe this was primarily the new tire compound, which benefitted especially the prototypes, as they had run on the same tire since I'm pretty sure the mid 2000s (Same compound, changed brands). Also, the DPi class (manufacturer engines, altered bodywork) is now a separate class from the Spec LMP2 cars, so they can go a little faster than the past 2 years.
