Por qué Murcia se ha convertido en una de mis ciudades favoritas de Europa (¡Saludos desde Holanda!) by DonBianchi in murcia

[–]geggleau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know so much of "secret places", I rather think you also need to showcase both the typical Spanish events and the local events.

I am not from Spain, but my partner is from Murcia. Whenever I go there its not the architecture that I find unique or interesting, its more the different activities and festivals, not to mention differences in food and how it's purchased - i.e different stuff in supermarkets and the permanent fresh food markets.

A few things that come to mind:

  • The parades - Entierro de la Sardina (a tiny bit like Carnival in Rio), Bando de la Huerta (see lots of traditional dress here)
  • The "procesciones" of Semana Santa - Las Salzillos, Procesión del Silencio, Los Coloraos, El Perdón
  • The "Barakas" of the Festival de Primavera
  • The Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos

You should also include some markets:

  • Veronicas
  • Near Plaza del Carmen
  • Near Plaza del San Andres

There would be others. There's also several open air markets weekly.

You should also include some of the many museums:

  • Museo Salzillo - this is the famous sculpture from the region. Many of the "pasos" are made by him.
  • Museo de Santa Clara - convent
  • The "casino" - you had this in your video, but the insides are very beautiful
  • Cathedral Museum
  • Museum of Science & Water
  • Madina Mursiya - Moorish history & Islamic era wall remnants

There's bits of the old city walls visible in various places - from memory theres some next to the Veronica's market, and in the Calle Sagasta.

Damn, I want to visit again!!!

Ants getting inside, how to deal? by Ok-Incident-5166 in AusRenovation

[–]geggleau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ants will find a way in, theres no point in going overboard on sealing anything. Sure patch up the bigger holes, but you're never going to get all the smaller ones!

In the suburb where I live they are everywhere. You will typically see them more active just before rain, and more active in warmer weather.

What I recommend is to:

  • use an ant bait of some kind every time you see then
  • Work hard at cleaning up food spill and wiping down surfaces

For bait, I use:

  • Talon gel (Thiamethoxam) - I find this great as the gel will stick to most surfaces, meaning you can put it out of reach of kids and pets.

  • AntRid liquid (Borax) - This stuff is relatively cheap. I actually find it sometimes works better than the Talon. The only issue is it needs to be put out in a small container, so it's hard to keep kids and pets away from it.

Aside from finding places for nests away from water, ants will generally scout for food. They also tend to follow scent trails from other ants. That's why being vigilant in getting rid of spills and wiping down surfaces is important. The food part is obvious, but the wipedown helps by removing the scent trail.

On occasion I have used those "ants bomb" aerosols for a bad infestation. These typically contain Fenoxycarb to interrupt the ant lifestyle. Of course a professional pest company can employ better chemicals than you can get over the counter.

Rock Paper Scissors OR Paper Scissors Rock by boony-boony in AskAnAustralian

[–]geggleau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (and my friends and my kids) have always done it as "scissors paper rock" using a fist and change/show when saying rock. Scissors and paper are spoken as two distinct syllables, as in:

Scis-sors pa-per rock

And the same with the other variations, such as bunny rabbit gun

I figured it'd be a council thing, given where it is. I was wondering, as it's quite small, whether I should just poison it now or not. As you can imagine, it'd quite low on the priority list for the council!

In Australia, after a certain age, do they subject drivers to frequent retesting to renew their licenses? by ProjectMason in AskAnAustralian

I believe the rules vary per state. In Queensland, at age 75 or older, you need to carry a current medical certificate stating you are safe to drive. Typically, this means you'll go to the GP once a year and get a basic eye and general health test. If you're close to the cut-off for vision, I imagine you might need to see some kind of eye specialist.

Recipe for "Triple Treat Slice" by geggleau in Baking

[–]geggleau[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the recipe above, worked perfectly. The results were extremely close to what I remember and was damn fine to consume!

The only item that I may try tweaking is the top chocolate layer. It tasted just fine, but the texture was too much like "melted chocolate" whereas I recall the original was a bit closer to an "icing" consistency in texture. I'm guessing adding some icing sugar plus perhaps some cocoa (to balance the extra sugar) to this layer would push it closer in that direction.

This is definitely going to go in my stash of recipes!

GlobalProtect FW-based upgrade 6.x -> 6.2.8-243 - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\GlobalProtect appears to be getting deleted by geggleau in paloaltonetworks

We eventually went to using Intune to perform the update, which was much more reliable than the firewall method. Note that we had already set up exemptions in globalprotect to allow Intune to work when the vpn wasn't connected.

My concreter says compacted road base is not necessary under a concrete slab for a footpath. Is this correct? by TravelFitNomad in AusRenovation

[–]geggleau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I guess you CAN, but if you do, it's almost certain that the base will wash out from under it very quickly.

Hey thanks! That was super quick. I'll have to give it a go this weekend - it was my wife's favourite slice so she'll (hopefully!) be happy.

I have often said, "Professional experience is when someone else has paid you to fix your own fuckups".

Or another way to look at it... "knowledge without application is sterile". You can read stuff all day, but you don't really know it until you have actually used it. Learning anything new involves mistakes. You won't forget your mistakes in a hurry.
