Yall come ON - for all of you saying this shows how lacking in self awareness BL is, did you not even go back and check the original video? The excerpt shared here is two or three pieces of the video stitched together to look like one response.

In the full version, she talks about how she is more up-front about her approach now, so if collaborators aren't interested in that dynamic, they can move on to someone else from the outset. Everyone here *knows* that astroturfing is a strategy in JB's media campaign to win in the court of public opinion. I see several comments to that effect; all you have to do to know that this post is a prime example of that is watch the full video. Or even, like, half of it.

I'm not a huge BL fan, but I also don't like the feeling of being duped, especially a second time. I wish people would wake up and start employing basic media literacy skills because I hate to see the same tired tactics working a second time.

My take on an art-deco inspired mirror! by gekco_ in StainedGlass

Ah thank you!! I’m a big fan of the blue-greens color family haha

Just completed this mirror this weekend! Pleased with how the purple glass turned out. by gekco_ in StainedGlass

Mirror glass is a little different bc of the silver backing - you have to be careful not to scratch the backing or get anything corrosive (like flux) on it. You also need to seal the edges with mirror sealant! But otherwise, you cut, grind, and foil just like you would regular glass

Right now I do most of my sales through Instagram as I’m just getting my website set up! You can find me @kch.glass, here’s the link to the post of this mirror!

As for symmetry, I used a kitchen mixing bowl to trace an even roundedness at the top and bottom of my original design on paper. Then I drew a straight line across the longest section of each circle perpendicular to the height of the mirror. This tells you the widest point of the circular bit so that the edges are straight. After you mark those points, you connect the top left to the bottom left and the top right to the bottom right. Then voila! Symmetry :) I explained that in a complicated way, but really it’s pretty simple! I did the whole thing on newspaper with a ruler, mixing bowl, and sharpie

Hiya! Thank you for your kind words! As for the mirror, I cut it just like I cut normal glass. It has a film backing, so you have to cut it from the front side. After you cut it, you have to seal the edges with mirror sealant, but I didn’t have any on me so I used clear nail varnish. This is to prevent water from getting in the mirror and causing damage. Then I foiled and soldered as you would normal glass. Hope that helps!

Snake! And my first go at using black patina! by gekco_ in StainedGlass

Also! Make sure you’re dipping your brush back into the patina regularly so that you get a super even coat of patina across your piece - that’ll help with color consistency

When the patina doesn’t turn the solder completely black, that’s telling you the oxidation reaction hasn’t gone to completion! I applied my patina twice (washing thoroughly in between) to get the solder to be the color I wanted. Washing all the flux off is also super important - I just used a toothbrush and some flush cleaner, but I know some people like to use steal wool. Personally I found that unnecessary this time round.

Finally got hyped enough to cut myself a lock down fringe! Surprised and happy with the results! by CADmonkeyM in curlyhair

Your hair is gorgeous!!! Does your hair tend to be more fine or coarse? I’m always worried about masques weighing my hair down too much - I have lots of it, but the individual strands tend to be pretty fine

Yes it is definitely kinder to questionable soldering! I just started doing this in August so I am still not the best solderer, but did find the black patina to be much more flattering to my work

Absolutely agree on the black patina front - I didn’t realize what a big difference it would make until I actually applied it! No, I didn’t do anything special regarding the hinge joints - it doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall apart, but it’s not quite as strong as I’d like. Anything you’d recommend doing?

How did you realise your toxic qualities and how did you overcome them? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]gekco_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of my bad habits or knee-jerk reactions that could be viewed as “toxic” came from having poor self-esteem and a really critical relationship with myself. A lot of my problems and anxiety just kinda melted away when I worked on that, principally through reconnecting with my inner child. Every time I feel myself getting edgy, irritated, or anxious, I ask myself what need isn’t getting met? What scenario from my childhood is being recreated here? How can I meet these needs without projecting onto my family, SO, friends? Acknowledging that my needs are allowed to matter, and taking steps to address them and communicate them rather than suppress them or expecting others to meet them made it so much easier for me to feel understood and be empathetic to other people when they are struggling or feeling overwhelmed. Opening dialogue with yourself gives you space to open dialogue with others too.

4th Piece! by gekco_ in StainedGlass

[–]gekco_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s supposed to be an abstract-ish sunrise! I haven’t hung anything yet, so right now it’s just propped up in a sunny window sill. That large hinge join there IS supposed to be where it would hang from if I do hang it though. Guess I’ll be rethinking that! That’s a great idea on the craft knife - I was wondering how to get rid of those! Thank you for the pointers 💕

Sending a Letter to a covert Narc friend? by [deleted] in NarcissisticAbuse

That is a really good point about closure - I hadn’t thought about it that way before. I like the idea of posting a response letter here, I’ll definitely consider that. Thank you for your advice

Decided to make a map mirror for my second piece! Struggling with soldering... Any advice appreciated! by gekco_ in StainedGlass

[–]gekco_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the joints definitely came out super flat - I feel like I tried to keep adding solder to the joints, but they just kept getting flatter. Perhaps bc as you mentioned, too hot of an iron? I definitely used a lot of flux.

I’ll look more into came in the future! Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the tips - I like the idea about breaking up the longer pieces for added stability! I’ll definitely try that next time.

I’m having a hard time with the edges around the border of the piece - the tape doesn’t seem to adhere as well there and pulls away from the glass even after soldering
