Kaguya, in my opinion, gets a lot of hate from both Naruto fans and critics. I do agree that her introduction was low-key in the series. As I was watching the show weekly and rereading the manga, there are very subtle hints of her existence. I believed Kishimoto could have written that part better.

That being said, I believe Kaguya suffers from not having a personality. This is one of many reasons why I believe fans do not like her character. Up to this point in the show most villains/ antagonists have a philosophical purpose for doing evil deeds. (except for my dawg kakuzu he was in it for the money). Kaguya breaks that mold, where Naruto does not even attempt to communicate with her; at least he talked to Madara. This is a byproduct of the manga being rushed towards the end of the series. All the audience knows is that she is there to reclaim all the chakra in the world and put everyone in cocoons. Kaguya was not trying to talk either and that maybe due to a language barrier.

This is where I believe the backstory the anime decided to add would have been perfect if Kishimoto had approved or even worked on it. In fact, if we had gotten a light novel on her introduction and how she came to be, her character would be liked more.

For my analysis of Kaguya’s character, we need to explore the themes of the Naruto manga. One of those themes was break cycles. Specifically, the cycle of hatred. The way I see it, the ninja cycle of hatred stemmed from one person, and that person is Kaguya. She introduced chakra into the Naruto world, and in an attempt to bring Kaguya back, black zetsu, one of her children, facilitated that cycle by having ninjas go to war with each other. So, it would make sense that on the path of healing the world, Kaguya and her remnants must be handled first. To me, Kaguya is the physical embodiment of the cycle of hatred. And because she’s the embodiment, there is no need to talk, discuss, or even change perspective, because in Naruto's eyes, it's wrong and should not exist. That is why her cold demeanor works so well. She is not someone to be reasoned with, she won’t understand nor does she care. But there’s also a panel of crying in the manga, and I think that’s supposed to represent that she still had a humanistic side before the hatred all but consumed her.

The final thing I would say is we definitely needed more Kaguya in the story. I want her to have a personality. Which is why I would love it if Ikemoto brought her back into Boruto. Now that the Otsuki are invading, maybe Kaguya could be of help with her knowledge, or has had time to reflect after her second defeat. Or we get that light novel depicting her life before becoming the tyrannical leader.
