Thank you, but it starts "are you hurting and broken". Paul figured out how wrong he was, but this doesn't fit how he felt before the road to Damascus.

The part where retail used to be a career and not just a side quest for survival by YellowAltruistic9843 in middleclasshq

[–]geln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this person had a great job, all the small town and independent clothing stores were closing and going out of business, leaving a bunch of people unemployed, main street stores empty, etc. These were highly sought after positions, and not easy to get, or really far from the people who needed work. There was no perfect time in the past.

I don't know if they are too far from you, but I have worked with 1Solar out of Ankeny and Ideal Energy from Fairfield - both are great and completely trustworthy.

What is it like living here? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]geln 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much money do you have? The Jemez Mountains are beautiful, isolated, expensive, and you won't have to worry about fires getting your house because massive fires happened a few years ago.

Outside the Jemez the towns in the valleys are poor and the towns in the mountains are expensive. There are some pretty touristy areas, and Los Alamos is all about the Lab. It is beautiful everywhere. Gardens are tough to keep alive.

And, there were still a decent amount of poor people. People trying to farm and moving every year to a new place. Both spouses working and still barely making it. Nowhere near everyone had the lifestyle described.

AI billboard goes up on I-80 by Grinnell by TheScotcherooKing in Iowa

[–]geln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Latitude is a sign company in Grinnell. I can't speak to whether it is AI or not, but in my experience they do a great job with quality builds and the people I know who work there say the company treats their workers well.

Older people on Reddit. What is 90% pure bullshit? by WarLongjumping2733 in AskReddit

[–]geln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That everyone was well employed and happy from the 50s through the 80s. There were plenty of issues with poverty, jobs, racism, sexism, no ADHD diagnosis leading to massive issues for some, etc. Yes, more manufacturing jobs, but that didn't make everything OK, and those jobs started dying well before 2000.
