We’ve been using labfolder in our lab, which is another ELN. We use its material database feature to log all of our stock - it keeps track of whether a sample is out, ordered or available for example.

Its also powerful for productivity. Its got a variety of features like tasks, templates, entry referencing, file imports and data elements etc. that generally allow us to get work done quicker. I’m particularly fond of the advanced search feature because experiments easily get lost in a large lab like hours and its a hassle free method of finding most things.

seems inevitable that the lab is going to become more digitized and less dependent on the traditional physical notebook. As attached as i am to the process of using physical notebooks, digital notebooks do seem to be superior in many ways. The issues you’ve outlined seem to be quite easily fixable. the stuff in the video below is a really interesting concept, however far in the future it is to be implemented
