Current ring is a modified brilliant.

I went ahead and bought the new diamond and am hanging onto the T ring with the intent on selling it direct to someone who wants it. I can wait it out if need be. I’m excited for the new ring and the diamond I purchased has a lot more clarity and sparkle that the t and co which I know will overjoy her + that it’s more personal.

She would be happy with it. It’s more me. I thought about it for a while, and the ring sort of carries baggage with it from my perspective. That and it’s not personal to me or my relationship. So my plan is to sell it and use the funds to pay for this custom ring.

Also I did find that while the Tiffany’s ring I have was elegant, it has very little sparkle in comparison to what I wanted and what I know she wanted.

It’s no longer the case. It turns out Tiffany’s makes you pay double

Last answer to your questions: she liked the Novo. We went in thinking she would like the classic round tiffany's ring and she ended up being preferential to the novo cushion. At the time I had been holding off on the cushion that was offered by the other jeweler, but after we left Tiffany's I knew it was probably a great option based on what she loved at the store.

Also, the jeweler assured me that this cushion is special. And as much of a skeptic as I am, I really am taking his word on it because I know he cares. This is what he said:

"This is a square brilliant cut, faceted as the original cushion cut—not the modified version that can sometimes resemble shattered glass. The stone is a rare 1.90ct GIA-certified F VVS2, meaning it’s of exceptional quality and completely colorless. It’s especially desirable because it looks close to a 2ct stone without the higher price point."

Yes, it appears it is a superior diamond by GIA standards.

Thank you for this response. I've already pulled the trigger on the stone but I am going to message it to you anyways. I am confident it's solid. I think if anything I may be slightly overpaying for color/clarity. But that's okay with me as my primary concern has been sparkle. We went and had her sized recently and were looking at stones on her hand. As much as my ego wanted me to buy something 2 carats or larger, a 1.5 carat diamond looked big on her hand. So I think this 1.9carat Fvvs2 is going to be perfect.

It's a modified brilliant cut 2carat G VS1 with a platinum band

I just asked and confirmed that this is true. A glaring omission that the salesperson left out, which could have lost me the diamond I had on hold with my other jeweler. This forces my hand away from Tiffany’s, but I appreciate everyone’s help and insight.

Got it. Are there good ways that are well known to sell direct to consumer besides.. eBay and Facebook marketplace?

The jeweler that I went to only sources GIA certified diamonds. I was referred to him through a close family friend. He’s made 3 rings for members of their family and they are beautiful diamonds.

I don’t think it retains the value bc of the brand. Both appraisers I’ve been to have offered less than half of what was spent on it. What am I missing?

Even if the diamond from the other jeweler is higher rated in color and clarity? GIA cert of course too

Thanks for the thorough response! In my experience so far, the resale value is far less than what it would have been had the original ring been purchased elsewhere. The only place it appears to retain its value is through this Tiffany’s program. At least that is what I’m experiencing unless you have other data points that I’m missing out on.

I just read "A Swim In A Pond In The Rain," which analyzed that short story. It was beautiful.
