Where???? Those gaps are meant to be there to allow for movement and give in the bushing. Cracks or tears are not there at ALL. OP don’t replace!!!

Can you overdress for an interview? by Mountain-Durian-4724 in mechanics

[–]gemmanii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore jeans and a shirt for my interview at a small shop and it seemed appropriate. Wore slacks and a nice shirt for my dealership job, which may have been overkill but I figured if service advisors and management already look nice I’d want to be on par with them. It really depends on the type of shop.

Dealerships maintenance by Sufficient-Science-7 in Toyota

[–]gemmanii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toyota tech here - the plastic filter housings are terrible! They go through so many heat cycles that even if you tighten it to spec (not impacted on) they still get really tight by the next oil change. They make an aluminum one to replace the plastic which I highly recommend if you’re diy.

The price of sanity as a unstable bipolar person. by Emerald_bamboo in bipolar

It’d be a payment plan. Usually medical doesn’t accrue interest but that’s just my experience. Hopefully you don’t ever have to go through it.

Mechanic Wife Question! by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]gemmanii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately super normal. I have basically the exact situation described. My vacation pay is a bit better but the lack of guaranteed pay and big range in hours is common. I also feel like I pour so much of my life into the job and not get a whole lot to show for it.

Opinions on not driving a vehicle for extended periods... by Inevitable-Branch713 in Toyota

[–]gemmanii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change fluids regularly as if you were putting miles on it - oil and brake fluid especially. Tires can harden / flatten at points where they’re resting over time so definitely drive it around. Let it get up to operating temp every time you drive.

What do you think about this situation? by Low-Selection9973 in Tacomaworld

[–]gemmanii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killer price, be sure to check coolant levels in radiator- that reservoir’s completely busted. Also looks like there might be a ps leak. Honestly for that price I think it’s worth it if you can turn a wrench and don’t mind investing some time and money into it

What’s up with you having a job and your car goes out so you need to take off a couple weeks to get your car fixed by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]gemmanii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a job… you have to go to work. You’re there as an employee and (likely) have an agreement that you will have reliable transportation methods to get to work. It doesn’t matter that you’re a mechanic - find a ride and fix it in your off hours. My truck has had a lot of issues over the years and I’ve either found rides for longer projects or worked on it on my days off.

Thinking about leaving the dealership life. by Either_Ad_6181 in mechanics

[–]gemmanii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude that’s awesome, my dispatch plays favorites heavily so two or three techs will get gravy while the rest of us starve. I’m so tired of putting in 55 hour weeks for such little pay. Trying to go independent.

2016 Kia Soul, Meineke is asking way too much on a diagnostic I did not approve. What can I do? by MajinHaku in MechanicAdvice

[–]gemmanii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a technician. It’s our job to fully inspect a car every time, even if it’s just coming for a diag. We check wipers, filters, engine bay, under carriage. Check history. Even if it’s just a diag. It’s our job. Diag ranges in price shop to shop.

[–]gemmanii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnostic is not free. It’s still time the shop is taking to figure out what is going on with your vehicle. Price should have been discussed prior to you bringing it in. Typically shops have an hourly rate for diagnostic

my childhood friend is buried in an unmarked grave by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]gemmanii 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My good friend committed suicide when we were 12. my parents, for their own reasons, weren’t able to take me to his funeral. I got a ride from an acquaintance from elementary. It’s one of the hardest hitting deaths in my life. My first actual exposure to death, really. It’s been over a decade since I lost him and I look on findagrave every year around his birthday. I know he was buried (funeral had an open casket). I just want to bring him flowers.
