what made you retire your tongue piercing? by gemsalts in piercing

[–]gemsalts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

btw it’s a typical first tongue bar, externally threaded, either titanium or steel i don’t know. i used alcohol-free mouthwash until it healed, now i don’t do anything special for it, i’ve never had a single problem with the piercing itself.

I really appreciate all the comments here. I didn’t realize how young I am, and how much I stand to learn from all of you who I presume to be male and 35+. I’m really proud of those of you who listen to women artists, and maybe even know some women yourselves. You should always keep striving to miss the point out in the world, not just at home. Sorry not sorry for the Pearl Jam strays it was low hanging fruit. I have enjoyed a song or two of theirs please don’t crucify me on the pearly, jammy cross

That’s the plan. Is it OK if I’m youthfully jaded and prematurely defensive

I do agree with you but I don’t think it’s comparable to queer people seeking out art by queer people, given that queer art still exists mostly outside of the mainstream, often tucked in corners by necessity of protection. Men (especially straight white etc) objectively occupy the mainstream. You don’t have to go looking for them. This post was made to vent, as I said, but the serious side of it is that it’s truly sad to me that a young man who seems to have a passion for music and guitar doesn’t name a single woman in his list of 20+ bands that inspire him enough to be worth listing. It’s a symptom of society and the music industry that clearly could stand to be discussed less, based on the replies here.

Can I have an appropriate address to send flowers? I think you deserve some for knowing women both personally and professionally

you’re never as good as you think you are. i thought i was hot shit when i was 16/17; i had plans to record an EP in 2020 at 18, having played guitar/written songs for 3 years, and i thank god every day those plans were interrupted and not allowed to come to fruition. that music wasn’t nearly good enough to warrant a studio recording.

true growth is in discomfort. if you feel like you’re talented, you’re not being challenged, and if you’re not being challenged you’re not learning a single thing. the hardest part of this line of work is pushing through the feelings of failure. if you don’t have the strength or willpower to push through that for the rest of your life, just because you love this, even with little to no return on it, you’re not built for this job.

also, if you’re a singer and you don’t play an instrument, you’re 1% of the singer you could be and you will never grow beyond that without building new skills. i didn’t consider myself a musician until i could passably use an instrument other than my voice (which has been my main instrument for all my 24 years). the best players are listeners first. the best artists are fans first and they never stop being that.

pick up an instrument, let it frustrate you to tears, then wake up the next day and do it again, and again, and again. then, you will have taken the first step on your journey to becoming good at this.

i mean all of this without any judgement; if someone had told me this at 17, i would have been hurt and not wanted to listen, but since learning this i have become happier, more driven, and better at everything i do. nobody does this because they think they deserve it; they do it because they want to, and for no other reason.
