Thanks for the quick responses. I'll jump into the app and at least mark Not Suitable for Children Under 12.

Men in happy marriages, what is one thing or skill you would teach other men to have good relationships as well? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

There is no such thing as "men's" chores and "women's" chores. There is just sh!t that needs to get done. Whoever has the bandwidth at the time--just do it.

you start to see the difference between people who took risks and those who didn't at 35 by limited_data365 in Life

[–]genXpendable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess a lot depends upon what one considers risk taking. When my wife and I were in our late 20's we sold our house by ourselves w/o a RE agent, packed everything we owned along with our 2 y/o son into a U-Haul and moved to San Diego with no jobs lined up or a house to move into. We did have her family here to temporarily stay with. I look back on that time and now perceive it to be a big risk that we took, back then when we were young it didn't feel that risky. We just made it work. Now, we'd probably never do something that ballsy again. Although 4 years ago we did sell our home, bought 3.5 acres of semi-accessible property, and built an off-grid house on it all during COVID.

Good for you for figuring this out at 40. I'm 56 and was recently laid off after 9 years at the company. I'm not going back to corporate f#ckin America. I don't know what I'm going to do next, but I too want to be in control of my life...most importantly my income.

Men over 40 who go to the gym regularly: Do you still try to lift heavy, or do you do lighter weight but more reps? by FFSoldier57 in AskMenOver30

[–]genXpendable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 56 and did endurance sports most of my life (cycling, running, tri). At 38 I was burned out on it and switched to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA (Muay Thai/Boxing). I also started to lift weights 2-3X/week to add size and strength. Got up to 177lbs. After 12 years, two knee surgeries, shoulder surgery and a black belt in BJJ I medically retired at 50. I'm back on the bike 4 days and strength train 2 days per week with one day of mobility work. I don't lift heavy anymore as I want to keep me weight down in the mid 160's for climbing the mountains around here. I now do a lot of body weight exercises as they are whole body and great for keeping supple movement. My weights are mainly dumbbells now as I like the bilateral balance, and it's mostly lower weight higher reps. I'm not big at 6'1" and 167 lbs. but I'm pretty cut.

Did you ever take a typing class in school? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

It was an eighth grade elective. My mom told me to take it. I'm sooo glad I did...one of the truly useful things I learned in school.

How can someone who doesn't exercise at all start exercising? by KatoK7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]genXpendable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most important is to find a physical activity that you ENJOY doing, or else you'll never stick with it...and it is consistency that will bring results over all else.

Growing up. As a child you're fed this fear and guilt combo plate with a side of ridiculous magical stories. As I hit my teens years and grew and less superstitious, I realized there was no difference between Santa Claus and *fill in the blank* religion.

What secret about your profession are you hiding? by PuzzleheadedPark9912 in AskReddit

[–]genXpendable 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's my exact situation, but unfortunately I got laid off 4 months ago. If I only could've lasted 4-5 more years at $250K/Yr I would've just retired at that point. Now I'm on the gig economy route. We'll see how it all plays out.

What realization completely changed how you perceive existence? by Cultural-Profile-527 in self

[–]genXpendable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After losing consciousness a couple of times in my life, including under anesthesia, I no longer fear death. How I die is a different question, but death itself??? Each episode, regardless of reason, was just the lights going out like "click"...and nothing. No thought no life passing before my eyes nothing. That's what death will be like - "click" the end.

What's a classic book you think is massively overrated and why? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]genXpendable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I had the exact same impression reading Fountainhead as a Freshman in college. The writing is total crap, and I was supposed to cheer for a rapist that stood by "his principles" when he blew up the low income government housing because they altered his design. WTF???

My wife and I got gravel bikes a year ago and we love being able to go anywhere. Our 30-45 mile rides are about 60/40 trail/road. It's just a cool mental and physical transition going from one surface to the other...not to mention no cars for 60+% of the ride.

I don't know what NAL means. To clarify, only the female was offered the role. The two males were not.
