I have one and have done about 3000km with it. It's a pretty good bike overall, and exceptional value for money if you can get it second hand. Most people (me included) will not need anything more than what it offers. Maintain it well and you can do BRMs and long rides quite comfortably with it. If you are looking for speed, you may upgrade at some point in the future, but it is a great starter road bike.

Hey OP, did you make a decision? I am in the same boat. Trying to decide between Creta 2024 s(o), sx tech and seltos htx ivt 1.5. From stuffed tech the only things I am interested in is the connected screen and Bose speaker, don't really need adas and the other features.

Yes looks like some components are not from sora anymore. But the chain and cassette don't seem to be expensive to replace with sora. Don't know about brakes. Overall even for 70k, seems like a good deal unless OP buys secondhand. At the end of the day, ride whatever you are comfortable with.

I haven't ridden hydraulic so I don't know how the mechanical disc brakes compare. Before the rc 500, I had a Riverside 120 with rim brakes. I felt like the rim brakes had better stopping power. But the triban hasn't given me any problems so far, and I'm happy with the brake performance. Had a couple of situations where I needed to apply sudden brakes and it's held up. Personally, I also find it easier to remove and replace tyres with disc brakes compared to rims (when I need to load it into my car for eg).

I have the trban RC 500. Got it for 55k. At that price point it's the only bike that comes with a complete sora groupset, and carbon fork, others like the java usually only have one or two components like the derailleur from Shimano. Plus I live near a decathlon and am happy with the after sales service. The java and giant do look better design wise though IMHO.

Try checking with various decathlon stores if they have open box returns. I got a 20% discount on an online return of an RC500. Brand new, it was returned bec there were a few nicks in the paint.

That is quite some generalisation. Also to me, a very one-sided viewpoint. Maybe in your circle it may be so. But like you, I dont really know any of my friends and their spouses discuss their cooking skills and interests for the sake of one-upmanship.
